New piece of software

Over the last couple of days I've had a piece of software written for me that uses image recognition to identify programmes.

Basically it uses a webcam to scan the image in real-time and then compares that image to a database of 80,000 images on record. If it finds a match it links it to my www.thefootballarchives.com database.

So what's it's purpose ?

Well it's going to be used for inventory management for my ecommerce store, I simply pass the image under the camera and it adds stock to the database. (bit like working on the checkouts at Asda)

From what was a process of:

1. Read programme details on cover
2. Search for said programme
3. Add inventory
4. Save

Now is
Pass under camera
Save Inventory

Just need to increase my database of programme covers now.

What it doesn't do, is obviously deal with seasons where clubs used the same cover for every game. But given that most programmes from 1965 onwards have been different, this should be a massive time saver

Will this be available on your site or is the software stand-alone?

I guess the possibilities to take it further are endless as well, e.g.create an entry into the DB if not already in there.

What is the accuracy rate like, does it work for the majority of scans (where the date is available) ?

I really need to work on my site - running everything from a DB would be a start!!

Like I said at the beginning sounds awesome and impressive.

Currently standalone, but potentially I get it working online for all to see.
I'm currently in the testing stages of the software and it has a 100% success rate at the minute. Because if it does fail for whatever reason, we are tweaking the software so it does find it
