I`m wondering if the United team which got shafted today by that team at the other end of the East Lancs Road have broken the Trades Description s Act?

Are they guilty of mascarading as the great Manchester United?

Ok, joke over (well you have to laugh about it don`t you ! )

My real point is actually a question for those of you who are a little bit savvy regarding Ebay. I`m listing some programmes which are due to end tonight but these are the first I`ve put up for auction in over two years.

Two observations, there seems to be hundreds more programmes for sale today than I can ever remember before on a Sunday (bearing in mind I haven`t searched for programmes for many months) and secondly, the search features appear to have changed ie now there are many options such as 'best match', 'finishing soonest etc....

My problem is that I have 'Manchester United' in the title and yet when I search for Manchester United in 'best match' my items don`t appear.

Only when I go for the 'ending soonest' feature do I find them .....about a thousand lots down the line. I appreciate that free or cheap listing may be the reason for what appears to be a swamped market place but I don`t remember before having to really search for my stuff?

Any feedback welcome as I`m not too sure I like the changes.

The recent (last couple of years) increase in the number of items is purely down to the free listing days which seem to be nearly every week now.

For private sellers there was an invite only free listing last weekend and this weekend there is a Saturday - Tuesday free listing.

There are also offers for business sellers. You usually know when there is one of these on as there is a big increase in BINs.

Best Match is simply one of the ways that eBay lists the items for sale in a search. Your items will have been listed there, but probably a long way down the list as it's usually major business sellers at the top.

Personally, I don't think that many buyers use Best Match as a search when it comes to football memorabilia, unless they are newbies.

It doesn't take long to work out that it is neither Best nor a Match and most people search either by newly listed, ending soonest or by price.

That`s what I was thinking...just go for the 'soonest' or 'price' etc but still it won`t bring in the novices who for example just tap in 'manchester united' and like myself hadn`t yet worked out the new(ish) format.

I suppose it really depends on what you are looking for.

Some people may want to search for specific items or others for anything and everything.

I search on a daily basis for everything in Sports Memorabilia with a Blackpool connection and also have other searches in categories such as badges or cigarette cards in case items are listed there instead of in Sports.

For new people it will take time for them to learn the system, the short cuts and the best approach for their individual requirements. Takes a little time.

Am I the only person who gets brain dead after 15 minutes on EBay?

Search here, there, everywhere........filter it over under sideways down (good Yardbirds 45, was that).

You lot must have either more patience or more spare time than me Smile

Yes, people are getting brain dead and because Ebay is flooded with tons of crap with cheap listing fees, I found out to my cost today that your avarage joe bloggs buyer over 10 days was simply not finding my stuff. Proof is in the 'page views' and 'watchers'. I had the least page views ever and least 'watchers'.

Because I wanted to get rid of the items I was selling, I offered free postage (don`t worry sellers, that`s me done selling for quite a while) and sold about 14 items in one lot (including a flat newspaper) I sold them for £4.99 and had one bid so I`ve made a loss (as expected)

My lot just seemed to be lost amongst literally 1000`s of football programmes (most I might add, not selling) I`ve never seen anything like it in all my years of using Ebay....absoloute carnage ! Confused

It is not so bad if you are a one club collector derby.

Dosen't take me very long to check each day for all newly listed items in Sports Memorabilia with Blackpool in the title or description.

I know to my cost that when I don't bother checking for a few days I usually miss something I wanted.

And that's only because someone says "I am surprised you never bid on that such and such programme, I thought you were after that.

As for spare time, that's why I took early retirement. To do things for myself for a change, rather than for an employer, and spend time on my collection, building a website and research into my club's history.

Cheers tackler.

I was at this match, sat in the old south stand. It got a bit hairy at times with some of the big hitters on show.

I have the programme in my collection of other games/events at Bloomfield Road and I have a few spare somewhere. Thumbs Up

Thought you would have, but just in case...

Its one of those programmes that I am not quite sure how I ended up with! Must have been a gift or in a bundle at some time or other. Due to space restraints I am trying to move on some of those type of programmes at the moment.

If you are looking at items on E Bay regularly then select the "newly listed" option for your search item and just look at those.

Am on it daily. I always go "auction" and "ending soonest" I then speed press the cursor and am always over within 20 minutes having scanned thousands of items from 8 different categories of programmes. You get to know what you're looking for, and if it's all pre 1960 you can tell at a glance whether the item is worth a second glance. A couple of minutes on football memorabilia on tickets and handbooks and that's me done for the day.
