Wall to wall fitted spam again. I never liked Spam as a kid, I like it even less now. Apparently soon to be renamed the Football Kitchen Programme Centre but I think Football Programme and Kitchen Centres has a much nicer feel to it.

What I can't understand is why do they do it?

It's pretty bad advertising as it turns any potential customer against them.

I don't understand why the forum isn't just shut down for new registrations until the issue is resolved, or registrations restricted to requiring pre-approval.

Instead nothing is done and we get continually bombarded with this crap for months on end.

Come on Guys, get behind the webmasters here.

I'm sure they'll be working on different solutions, but it's not a pay site and they'll have day jobs and other commitments like most of us do. I'd wager that there are umpteen spam filters and checks set on this site, but the trolls still get through. Companies spend millions on filters.

The spam is hardly an infestation (more an irritation) so just ignore it and enjoy the banter and community of like-minded collectors.

The bigger issue for me is how to stop ebay now prompting me to save my new search which is minus bobfrankand elvis !! I've saved it so many times my ebay is now filled with searches.

Keep up the good work ! Thumbs Up

To be fair, having set-up and ran a messageboard a few years back it's fairly easy to stop new registrations or at least filter them.

This has been going on for months, and it's getting worse.

I can't say that I agree with a laissez faire approach to this problem. It's not unlike a dripping tap, you can put up with it but it doesn't take much to fix it. There's no criticism of the webmasters, agreed that it's not a stipend. Most of us love this site, it a is a unique forum for our hobby. The problem with not sorting this crap out asap is that it dilutes its essence and may even put people off posting or, chancing upon it and seeing a shedful of this rubbish they could be put off bothering to join!

As a short term measure, why doesn't one or two of the more prolific members take on moderator status and delete as soon as it appears?

Stop the flies getting in to start with rather than running around swatting them.

It's true prevention is better than cure.

But for whatever reason this isn't being done.

What I can't understand is that people on the forum are actually viewing this spam crap. All those that have been posted on the site today have had 10 views or more. Who's actually viewing them?
Confused

bots view them, such as google

They then get indexed and appear on their search pages, hence WHY people do this anyway. The more links that appear to a website, the higher they appear in search listings, which is why it is important to keep on top of these

One way to combat it easily would be to auto replace the word kitchen with an alternative, not only would this ruin the links, it would also make for some fun new links appearing

Try the word 'porn' in the place of kitchen Smile

Ok. Craig is still working on this but I have now set it so if the K word is used in any post it will be replaced with the word "crap".
As you can see above it has begun to work.
Let's see if it stops these twats.

Jamie.

I am happy to volunteer my services as a mod and zap these spammers into cyber history.

That's a shame, I was looking into getting a new kitchen within the next few months.

EDIT - Yup, working perfectly Laughing
