Interesting to hear about the current situation at QPR.

'Arry has nine or so players he wants rid of. They took no part in pre-season games and they train away from the first team squad.

Problem is their combined wages are around £500,000 to £600,000 per week! Top Premier League Clubs are not interested in the players and it is unlikely that other Clubs can afford them on the money they currently get from Q.P.R.

If the players decide to sit tight until their contracts run out it is costing QPR around £25 million per year for doing sweet F.A.

I suppose Q P R are to blame for giving them the contracts in the first place and then get relegated!

No sympathy for clubs like QPR with their reckless attittude to wages and contracts.

This will be another 'we must get promoted at all costs' scenario just like West Ham the season before last.

Of course Sky will no doubt help them by featuring them as much as possible in live games (along with Leeds of course).

It happens at all Premier clubs. Players are paid too much, they have a dip in form , or they never were as good as you thought. So they pick up £10000s a week sitting on the bench or in the stands. You can't get rid of them because they are sitting on huge contracts. On the other hand. Their present form is outstanding, they want a move to a "bigger club" and all of a sudden that contract is worthless, They move on for bigger wages , their form dips, and the new club is stuck with them. And on we go. Example Darren Bent.

Sadly football finances have gone nuts over the last few years mainly due to the ridiculous amount of TV money and over hyping of players. Arsenal have tried to be prudent with the salaries but sadly that hasn't stopped them signing players clearly not good enough for premiership and then seat warming for £40-50k per week and refusing to move on but staying to "fight for their place"

QPR board must take a massive amount of blame for being hoodwinked into paying ridiculous wages compared with their income but Mark Hughes must take a lot of blame for convincing the board that they were "must have" players. An all round disaster. Hopefully a sobering thought for all promoted clubs.

I just long for the day that Murdoch goes to meet his maker and his corporation thinks "We don't like soccer any more" They wouldn't call it fitba, obviously.

See clubs fall like dominoes and cue mass outpourings of grief from fans "who never saw it coming" If Carlsberg did fitba scenarios....

It's totally insane, and clubs will vanish ( some already have). But we have just had one of the biggest economic downturns ever and the crazy world of Premiership continues untouched by the real world. Maybe it will continue forever defying gravity. Confused

Of course bringing in that bastion of financial conservatism Redknapp was a wonderfully prudent idea. Will be interesting to see whether Fernandez is going to chase his losses or cut and run
