Here are a couple at random from me will sort out some others later.
Certain clubs in particular Brighton and Hove Albion had photographers at the ground all the time at the turn of the last century always photographing the crowds, perhaps John Wells can advise why Brighton did this, anyway here is a crowd scene and some action from Reading v Manchester United in the 3rd Round of the English Cup[as it was known then]:

They're terrific - especially interesting to see the incidental items in the shot such as the advertising boards and the houses in the background.

That second postcard - would be ideal for a "Spot The Ball" competition!

Thanks for sharing, Leslie

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for?

Two postcards from the 1909 FA Cup final between Manchester United v Bristol City.
The first postcard is an action shot whilst the second postcard shows the only known photo of Turnbull scoring the winning goal for Manchester United.
These were taken with fixed tripod cameras.
Can you imagine the patience of the photographer having to set up and focus on such a limited area and hope that something happened on this particular piece of grass.
If you look very closely at the "winning goal" card you can see the cameramen around the pitch.

Two extremely rare cards for your amusement which can be viewed along with other similiar items at

I have just found two more.
These postcards were formerly the property of George Stacey who played for Manchester United pre WW2.
The first shows a training session about 1910 at the new Old Trafford ground.
The 3 players(left to right) are Edmunds,Picken and Stacey with Sandy Turnbull at the back
Sandy Turnbull was killed on the Western Front
The second card shows the Manchester United team leaving the Town Hall

Excellent, Rare items from Treble!

Any other offerings as this is a thread for everyone to join in-anyone got any postcards, maybe if we widen the dates to say pre 1930 there will be more?, if any member has anything they consider to be within the criteria and it is Pre-WW2 just add it i guess, let's all see what else we have as we do not want it to turn out to be JUST a MUFC thread that is not the intention-more offerings from me later but i want to see if we can find other club's items first.

Look at all those punters in the crowd at the Crystal Palace for the 1909 Cup Final have they got a programme tucked in their pockets!!!-and the programme sold for £23,000 plus the commissions etc 103 years later-if you had THAT kind of money all those years ago you were set for life!.

Two original 1909 official programmes have ever surfaced to my knowledge, one was sold privately for £16k in 1999 and the other a few months ago and who knows if it was not the same one!, yet the "Souvenir" programme produced by WH Smith has shown up from time to time over the years but again only a handfull or so same with the 1910 that WH Smoth also produced but they haveand never hit those dizzy heights for sure and i would think the WH Smith item pro-rata to the official would be worth £5-6k in a good condition but that is only my opinion maybe more?or less.

This is a crowd scene one. It is Crystal Palace fans at "The Nest", which was the clubs ground before Selhurst Park. So would have been between 1918 and 1924.

This is a postcard of Croydon Common v Norwich, 1909, also played at "The Nest" (it was Croydon Common's ground before Palace moved in, in 1918)
