Hi all,

Total newbie.
I have just taken up the job to produce a local clubs match day programme.
I thought this would be a good place to ask 'what would you like to see in one'? You're the enthusiasts, what would you want?

Standard.
Player Profiles/Team sheets
Previous games match report
League tables/results
Captain/Manager thoughts
Opposition write up

Anything else from other programmes really catch your eye that you'd recommend I use?

Thanks for your time.

Hi & welcome to the forum.

How about a 'focus on' type thing featuring a different club player (or official) each programme, these can often raise a smile with their content.

If you have access to club records/history you could also have a 'this week 5/10/20 etc years ago' section.

Maybe have a competition with a small club based prize, free tickets etc?

Hope this helps.

Supporters view is always the most interesting thing to read in my opinion. Even better if 2 or 3 different fans take a turn to write it - gives different viewpoint each time that way. They can write about pretty much what they want.

The other one I like is 'away day tales' - you either have as a running feature that a fan writes about their trip to the previous away match (how they got there, where they stopped off, where they ate and drank, any funny stories such as getting lost or the car beaking down etc)........or you can do it so a fan writes about a previous years away trip to the away game at the opponents who the programme is for that day. So for example it could be a memorable fixture against them such as a promotion or top of the table game (or bottom of the table dogfight) or just an away trip against the visiting team which was memorable for something unusual, be it lots of sendings off, the team were late, numerous postponements, a big cup tie etc. The good thing about this angle is that the away fans reading your programme will be interested in how your fans had a day out at theirs.

I always like reading the stuff that fans have written as most other programme content can be a bit 'dry'

Memorabilia section, the Blades ran with a page a few seasons back, which covered all aspects, programmes, tickets, newspapers, handbooks, dinner menus, caps, shirts, bound volumes, books, Railway handbills etc etc.

An interesting cover, ......much was made of West Brom's last season and rightly so.

This season, love the Port Vale one, I assume looking at the different designs its the same publishers.
