Am heading down for the game that could decide our destiny for the rest of the season in Manchester tomorrow.......Hyde vs Grimsby. Someone said there's another game on in the area, but it's definitely not as big as this one.

Am looking for any semi decent real ale pubs in the Stockport / Hyde area if anyone could be so kind as to advise by tomorrow morning. Guest house is booked in Stockport so am considering a decent bender, before and after the game. Went to a couple of cracking pubs, whose names escape me, in Stockport last year with Arthur and Roland but can't remember their names! Think they could be a tad out of the way, will check Camra's north west site.

Hi John The Sportsman just 5 mins walk from Ewen Fields sells Real Ale! Near Morrisons on main Road to Glossop from Hyde.Plenty of parking spaces near Ewen Fields(Walker lane leisure centre back of ground massive car park) ,and in side streets near ground,I would have had a pint with you but I am in Oswestry tomorrow visiting family. It used to be Hyde United FC ,but when Man City put some money up to save the club ,it was on the proviso that they dropped the United from the name, and painted the ground blue ! Laughing Still play in Red though Smile Hope the Mariners beat Hyde ,as I have little affinity for the Club .The ground is still owned by Tameside Council as far as I know ,so how could Man City direct the changes? I know many Hyde United supporters who stopped going when the changes were made. The Club would have survived believe me .Aside from all that it is a neat little ground ,which I have played on ,and refereed on many times over the years.Social Club also on ground!Enjoy the match ,come on the Mariners! Very Happy

Thanks for that Ken. Will be leaving the car at the guest house - for very obvious reasons - so aprking's not an issue tomorrow night. Will definitely be in the Sportsman's prior to kick off if I make it from the Crown!
