1962/63 Charlton v Cardiff City (FA Cup) - how many progs

Does anyone have any idea how many different programmes were produced for the 1962/63 Charlton Athletic v Cardiff City F.A. Cup tie?

I know of the following so far:

Alan, there's definitely 2, there may be 3! I think from memory one is undated as you say and the other is dated. But I believe there is a gap in the Charlton numbering sequence for that season, but that could of course be for another postponed game against someone else. Hang on..... just checked oN Ebay, there are 2 on there.

The original one is undated on the cover but for the date of 5 January 1963, the other one is for 26/1/63, but as I say there is a gap in the numbering system and at that period it was that long hard winter with load of postponements. So I believe they are volume XXX and numbered 16 &18 or 18&20. ALso to add to the confusion there was an abandoned game v Southampton on 19 January so that would account for the numbering gap, presumably this was the game numbered between the 2 Cardiff progs. But just to make it interesting the actual games was played on 18 February!! I am not sure if there was a prog for this or if the one from 26 Jan was used. I realise I have now added to the confusion, and I don't possess any away progs any more. Perhaps a Charlton fan can enlighten us?

I've delved into this a little further. The list below shows Charlton Athletic's home games from the period.

The number on the left is the match number, only applicable to those games that actually took place.

The next number is the programme number, as printed on the front cover. It looks as if No. 15 should be the FA Cup tie v Cardiff City which was scheduled to take place on 5 January 1963.

I haven't seen the programmes for 9 February and 18 February.

Charlton programmes seem to jump from No. 17 to No. 19 (unless there was another game played between 6 and 16 March - a friendly perhaps?). Or did they realise there was a mistake in their numbering system?

I thought it was a confusing issue too!

The programme for the game v Bury on 9 February is numbered 15.

I presume from that that Charlton didn't issue a new programme for the FA Cup tie v Cardiff City that took place on 18 February as programme no. 16 was issued for their next league game v Norwich City on 2 March. They must have used the undated programme.

Still trying to find out if a programme was issued for the original date of 5 January. If the game was called of a few days before, then it's unlikley a programme was issued. Anyone know?

Good research Alan, I think there's only 2 progs, I'm sure over the years I would have seen the others.

I would wager that the undated programme Vol XXX no. 16 would refer to the 5th January if the fixtures/results listed are anything to go by.

A new programme was issued for the 26th January and then I would imagine it was reused for the third attempt on 7th February and fourth attempt on 18th February (because the copy I have has the date 18th Feb written on).

All very confusing. Perhaps someone who was actually there at the time can shed further light on the matter

As far as I am aware there are only 2 FAC programmes as you previously stated.

I am at work at the moment, but when I get home, should be able to clear up the confusion as to the prog numbers.
