The Scots will not care, because this is a historic day for FOOTBALL ENGLAND and WEST BROMWICH ALBION
2.30pm is the time Sky News will be there and so will I.

Yes you have it Goodison.. Ive been dragged in to get it sorted..

We wanted a Staue for Bomber and the club kept dragging their feet and with this being a coloured issue they could not refuse. The Council, the Albion, The PFA., Fifa are all getting involved.. Very Happy

That's because they love me Laughing

It's hardly earth shattering news though Bazza? I appreciate that West Brom were at the forefront of bringing black footballers into the game, and they certainly deserve recognition for that. It's a pity the man who engineered that team blotted his copybook and ended up being labelled a racist whilst commentating on television.

Everything went well today.
£200,000 is needed for the statue (One weeks wages of Drogba+co)
It will be in West Bromwich Town Centre in a prime position.
This thing is going to be massive, a lot of TV camera's were there, so was RON ATKINSON and Laurie Cunninghams Family.
It has received massive support from WBA FC, Sandwell Council, PFA, FIFA, and a lot of major companies.

Hardly the 'Historic' announcement I was expecting.

'Steve Clarke has bust up with Chairman and is immediately replaced by Sven Goran Eriksson'
or
'Baggies taken over by some Russian billionaire'
..or something 'historic' like that.

Just out of curiosity, who pays for the statue? Mr & Mrs taxpayer?

I suppose it's a good idea really to have a statue of 3 black players when racism amongst football players is making all the headlines over recent months..........

Just my humble opinion / thoughts.

Money will be raised by supporters and fund raising only.
The £200.000 (Drogba's weekly wage) will flood in.

10,000 copies of the Celebration magazine £5.
Full page advert £500 half page £300.
£250 Membership of 400 people to The The 1979 Club.
+ Many VIP Events staring The Players Frank Skinner Adrian Chiles Lenny Henry etc.
The Statue will be unveiled in two years time at the 25th anniversary of Laurie Cunninghams death.

I have been attending the Hawthorns first team games since 1963 ( I was a scholboy) and up until the arrival of Laurie in approx 1977 had never seen a black player perform on our turf.
Cyrille and Brendon arrived approx the season afterwards.

Despite fierce intimidation, racist remarks and having banana's hurled at them which they ignored then they answered their critics with what they done on the pitch and were instrumental members of the best ever Albion team in my lifetime.

This went further than just the playing side, suddenly black faces started to appear on the terraces, black kids started to take an interest and joined school football teams whereby they only played cricket previously.

A top division black player was practically unheard of (however there had been a few earlier players, Clyde Best for example) but no team had ever had three playing the same side at the same time.

35 years on then approx 40% of Premiership players are black or of black origin.

England gave football to the world, West Bromwich Albion (a founder member) provided the impetus to give football to the people regardless of race or creed.

Those are two facts written in History which can never be denied or challenged and is a subject on which we the supporters, the club and the town are highly proud
