Man City winning the title last year - 110% one-off - could've killed English football. Nod

how the hell can a player go in with studs showing at chest height and then argue its not a red card. Unbelievable.

But Nani was following the flight of the ball and didn't see Arbeloa charging in.
Seems to me that if anyone was to blame it was the Madrid man who should have pulled out of the challenge for his own safety.

If I was SAF, I'd be more cocnerned with his captain's petulant applause towards the ref once the final whistle had gone.

Lucky he didn't get a red card for that.

Red card? yellow card? just a warning?...at the end of the day Real Madrid have gone through but Manchester United can be very proud of the way they fought to the death with 10 men.

Ronaldo can be proud of the way he conducted himself in front of the United fans and would surely be welcomed back if only as an honoured guest in the future years to come.

Mourinho showed himself to be a humble gentleman when he really wanted to celebrate.

Congratulations to Real Madrid for putting on a good show and I hope they now go on and win it.

As for Manchester United, they don`t owe anyone anything which is more than can be said for certain so called big clubs !! Clap

Make your mind up time.

Fifa law 12, fouls and misconduct, states:

"A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play." It clarifies: "Excessive force means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent."

United player gets a red card.

Manager is not happy. How strange

Manchester United lose to a better side and exit a competition.

Shall we move on? I guess not.

For me it was borderline red/yellow card. It was clearly reckless, and therefore dangerous.

Perhaps MU should have been able to adapt and defend a lead with 10? Mourinho's Inter did it at Barca on their way to the CL a couple of years ago and so did Chelsea last year.

As someone said on the Radio this AM, Mourinho was treating the match as part of his job application for when SAF steps aside!

I found Roy Keane's post-match analysis laughable to say the least. He has a big chip on both shoulders about United these days!

Roy Keane is one of many reasons I beleive ITV should not have any football rights for any match or competition.

My 8 year old was rolling around with laughter at Fergie's reaction after the sending off, running down the steps, berating the fourth official, finger pointing. All very entertaining.

I can't say if the referee was correct or not, I can't say if he communicated with the linesman. Everyone has spoke of Nani watching the flight of the ball. from the camera angles I've seen this looks the case, but from the linesman angle on that side of the pitch, did he see Nani take a quick glance, that we didn't, who knows? What I would say is at full speed some angle views appear to make it look accidental, others make it look a tad worse.

Nevertheless, I have to say I'm surprised at Manchester United.

After the sending off, Real re-organized, and brought on Modric, who immediately began to dictate. Real had a golden period of 15 minutes immediately after the sending off, what did United do.....Nothing.

Why, perhaps on the touchline they were still dealing with the perceived injustice. Clearly, Fergie thought his team had been wronged, however, waving your arms to pump up the crowd, what exactly was that going to achieve?

I'd prefer to see the manager in control, and organizing the team which was the priority, rather than acting the cheerleader.

I'm sure Real Madrid have played in more hostile atmosphere's than Old Trafford and if anything they appeared to thrive on it, whilst United appeared to lose the plot just when calm heads were needed.

The rules seem to be different in European football as well.

In an English league game this would have been a foul and possibly a yellow card.

Quite a few players, particularly foreign players, try and control the ball in this way nowadays - not saying that it isn't potentially dangerous but Arbeloa made the conscious decision to charge in how he did.

What goes around comes around..

No doubt Man United will get more than their fair share of dodgy decisions in the years to come.
