If I'm ever down again I will, but can't see it to be honest unless it's to watch the Mighty Mariners at Wembley again some time (please God!)

If you ever come up to Scotland the same invitation is open in reverse, Pete.

I quite like London. It has good parts and bad parts, just like every other town or city in the UK, and probably the world.

I live in Greater Manchester, and I have traveled to many big Cities.Chicago ,New York ,Paris,New Orleans ,Washington ,Barcelona ,Rome,to name just a few ,but I love London .Its still a great city with some much to see.I have been on all the Football grounds except 2 ,Leyton Orient ,and Brentford.I think its changed somewhat over the years ,and there are things not to like about it now. However its still a great place to visit, and look forward to my next visit ,Tottenham in 2 weeks time! Much as I like the place, I could only take it in small doses.

When I was younger I found London exciting and visited a lot. Now i'm an old man Laughing it does my head in , and I avoid it the best I can. ( The daughter lives there)
I think you can say the same about pubs. You couldn't keep me out years ago , now i'd much rather sit at home with supermarket 6 pack of beer.

Newport's where it's at guys.

A deserted city centre full of boarded up shops, alleyways absolutely chocker with homeless addicts pleading for your spare change, all coupled with eye-pleasing buildings most reminiscent of 1970s Eastern European Communism.

You don't know what you're missing.

You come out of the pub and they say,any change? Of course you've got change, when you're going to bed you undo the button on your trousers and they hit the floor in 0.05 seconds.

That's all the fault of us average Londoners, apparently, Wiggy. Nothing to do with the Eton cronies now, with the various Scots in power at Westminster before them, with Margaret "no such thing as society" Thatcher for 13 years before them, or out-of-control trade unions in the 70's, or ever-corrupt and pathetic local government.

No, blame average Joe Londoner.

All true Pete.

It wasn't the Grantham shopkeeper's daughter that took away our school milk, closed down our pits, and crippled our steel industry - it was 'that' London.

Ha! If posties weren't too bloody lazy in forgetting to frank their stamps we could wipe off the national debt with the lost revenue, although I'd be out of pocket!

Serious question this for a change. If this wonderful Barnett formula that "allows" Westminster to give the other UK countries an "allowance" is such a bummer - and I know it makes the Daily Mail's blood boil so it can't be all bad - how come the Tories, Liberals and Labour Party are all standing square together saying "better together" in the independence campaign? Why not get shut of us? London / Westminster isn't just another country to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, it is to the rest of England as well. Investment, spending, infrastructure, the Arts, are all concentrated unnaturally in the capital, to the detriment of everywhere else.

My original remarks were somewhat tongue in cheek, but living in Scotland, London might as well be on the moon. Our Westminster Tory politician has no mandate up here, and yet the will of the Scottish people - who worked out long since that Tories are basically evil - is always overlooked. Think the eventual vote on Independence may eventually be a lot, lot, closer than is currently being predicted. You really want to hear the ridiculous scare stories that Darling and his other Westminster cronies are spreading about with gay abandon up here, trying to scare us into keeping the status quo.

For me, independence simply can't come quick enough. The idea that a nation such as Scotland should still be shackled to "the mother country" in the 21st century is ludicrous. This isn't an anti English rant, my late wife was English as are my two sons, but an understanding that Scotland does indeed have the capacity to go it alone, and to change this rotten neo liberal society that has been foisted upon us for the better.

Rant over. Smile

About as ridiculous as the stories spouted in favour of independence by Salmond and his crew. And the inconvenient truths ignored.

Go for it, Scots. Please.
