I have just added a couple of tickets to my flickr page that may be of interest.
you can find them in the set marked tickets
they are
1 Unused ticket from the infamous game between Estudiantes v Manchester United for the World Club Championship in 1969.
2 Ticket from the 1945 FA Cup Final(North) between Manchester United v Bolton Wanderers which Bolton won over 2 legs

i don't have a ticket for this game.
i believe manchesterunitedman1 has one and i am sure he will post a scan.
it may well already be on his flickr page.
i have posted on my flickr site 2 scans of the cover and inside of an itinerary that was given to the Red Star players for their visit to England to play the Festival of Britain match.
you can locate it on my flickr page in the set marked itinerary
it shows a very interesting trip to England
This itinerary was asking members of the public to show the holder of this card to his headquarters.
it explained they did not speak English and needed help.
the itinerary shows that Red Star stayed 3 days in Blackpool before travelling to Manchester to play the game.
Back to Blackpool for a couple of days and then up to Sunderland for one day.
train to London then home on the Orient Express.
Does anybody know why they went to Sunderland.did they play up in the North East?
I can help with the Blackpool bit.
in the 1950's everybody was on maximum wage of a fiver a week so the way round this was to pay for a holiday loosely disguised as a match.
That's why Manchester United(and others),at the end of the season, went to America to play such great teams as St Louis Catholic Club,Joe Simpkins Ford dealers X1,Fall River All Stars
That's part of the reason Blackpool had such a good team in this era.
If you were going to get a fiver no matter who you played for you might as well play in the Riviera town of Blackpool rather than a Lancashire mill town.
in those days few went abroad for holidays.Blackpool alledgedly had a clean beach and sea.
nowadays even an athiest could walk on the water in Blackpool
anyway check out the flickr page

may we ask how much each item cost, I know from your previous posts that you keep very detailed records on all Manchester United items old. |

you are correct that i do keep notes on items when i see them come up for sale but on both occasions these were not bought.
the itinerary came as a trade.i can however help a little more in valaution terms.
an itinerary sold at SAS auctions a couple of days ago from the 1980's.
it hammered at £350 so with the bits the cost was just over £400.
i have seen similiar sell at up to £500.
they are all much of a muchness in as much as they were printed in limited numbers for the travelling party only so no more than say 30 produced and only for important games.
i feel very safe at valueing an itinerary of this style at between £400 to £500.
i would add a footnote as to say this is,in my opinion, quite a limited collecting market.
--
the Manchester United v Bolton ticket is one that came as part of a collection of tickets of that era that i bought a long time ago.
tickets are something that have never really formed part of my collection but i have held on to a few that interested me.
some people were/still are prepared to pay any amount for a ticket.
they normally don't float my boat but an odd one resonates with me.
The Bolton one did as it is for a cup final.
i have never seen another one in 40 years of collecting.
i suspect that i could get as much as £500 for somebody that wanted it but equally i would not be surprised if it didn't sell for £50.
the only time we will know for sure is if i ever decide to sell it.
--------------------
Finally the Estudiantes ticket is a bit different
About 5 years ago i bought a signed brochure for a testimonial game from the 1960's on ebay for £5.
the seller was somebody who lived not far away and he said he had another 10 so i bought the lot for £50 and went round to collect them.
At that time he informed me he was doing a house clearance for a retired Manchester United who was going to live abroad and in the attic was a briefcase full of football related items.
there were 2 of the Estudiantes tickets plus some programmes.
One Estudiantes ticket was complete and unused(the one on flickr)
the other had been used and had the used portion taken off.
I told him the tickets were very rare and could be worth anything.
He thanked me for the information and said he would have been happy with £10 the pair.He offered me the 2 for £100 each which i bought.
In those days tickets were not something sought after.
you could go to a programme fair and buy all you could carry for a fiver.
One day the ticket market took off so i offered one for sale at auction and it sold for about £700(i think)
since then the ticket market has gone on its arse and most can be bought for a few coppers although a rare one spikes up quite high.
again in my opinion a limited market due to not a large number of collectors at the high end of the ticket market however i think a complete Estudiantes ticket from a player who played in this important game could command a price of £750/£1100

To shed a little light on the Red Star trip to Sunderland. Red Star played United at Old Trafford on 12th May - a game that ended 1-1 - and then played at Roker Park on 16th May when Sunderland won 1-0. Before these games they met Preston North End on 9th May when the Lilywhites won 2-1. |
