Newcastle will get over 45,000 every week if they are near the top of the Championship, if they go down.
I would rather have a Newcastle United team in the Premier League than Wigan or boring Portsmouth team who are just there to make up the numbers !! |
What if they go down and are just average next season? Maybe mid table most of the season? You'll be looking at crowds or around 30,000 I think. |

Wigan aren't there just to make up the numbers though, they've been in the top ten for most of this season. Portmouth finished in the top half last season and won the FA Cup - much more than Newcastle have achieved recently. |

Can't say I really mind who goes up or down from the Championship, now that the other lot in Bristol are staying put I am happy.
As for the size of crowds Newcastle would get I have had a theory for years now.
I believe that if any team (Man U, Liverpool or any other) was to spend a few (5 to 10) years in the lower two leagues then their crowds would drop like a stone. Also, if it happened the other way round and a small team managed to get to the Prem for a similar period of time then if the ground was big enough their crowds would rise to be close to those around them. I know there is always an exception to this as wigan show but they are surrounded by many other prem sides.

The difference between newcastle and "wigan or boring portsmouth" is that newcastle think because of their history they deserve to be in the prem . But portsmouth and wigan are willing to fight hard to stay in the prem and make their own histories ie portsmouth fa cup win last year/ wigan league cup final a few years ago.. _________________ This is my website which has pictures of my chelsea programme collection. www.freewebs.com/dellboye |

As mentioned to previously I support Leeds.
A lot of paper is wasted in people saying we used to be in the champions league and at the top of the premier league and this club deserves to be in the premier league.
Why do we? what gives us the rigth to be there? History is in the past, we can be proud of history (all teams not just leeds) but that doesn't garentee a future sucess. We are a league one team, nothing more nothing less and until we gain promotion through winning football matches we will remain a league one team.
We (luckily) still have a quite large fanbase, but that does not make us champions. The teams in the Premier league desrve to be there through merit, regardless of whether they get a 1000 a week or 77000.
One thing is for sure.... I am leeds until I die _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

Paulo,
Best of luck tomorrow mate, I really, really hope you stay up. I think you are a very simillar club to us, in that you're not a massive club, but punched well above your weight for a long period of time, and achieved amazing success. Not only that, its a good day out down there, and the fans have always been ok with us. Oh, and I hate Barnsley!! Its not the nicest place to go, the fans hate us and we hate them (Apologies to any Barnsley fans, but you know this is true). And I once got thrown out, and had to watch the score coming in on ceefax in the next door leisure centre bar (They couldn't afford Sky!!), with the biggest lump of a Barnsley fan I have ever seen in my life-I thought he was gonna eat me!!
Good luck Paulo, see you at the City Ground next year, and I'll buy you that pint I promised!! _________________ PLEASE check out my Prostate Cancer UK charity auction page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1550474568596587/ |

Thanks Mick! Norwich could have really timed this relegation a little better as my other half is due with our first child in August. I was planning to cut back on the aways next season and only do grounds I have not done. Would have been the new Cardiff and Peterborough (although I have been there for a friendly).
If (or more likely when) we go down I will be looking at 9 and possibly 10 new grounds if Shewsbury win the play offs!
Still at least I would be on 80 current and over 100 grounds in total if we do go down!
I think the other half may look like this when I get back tomorrow if we are down.... |

I've watched Grimsby play at Newcastle in the old Division 2 in crowds of 11,000+ and 13,000+ Their fans will be like anyone else's if they don't do well. |

When chelsea were in the old second division in the early 80's in some matches there were crowds of just over 6000 _________________ This is my website which has pictures of my chelsea programme collection. www.freewebs.com/dellboye |
