Benitez - Won the Champions League, broke the stranglehold of Barcelona & Real Madrid in La Liga with a relatively smaller club.

Hodgson - Well respected manager, excellent achievement in getting Fulham to the Europa League and subsequent excellent run in that competition.

Dalglish - Won Premiership title with a small club like Blackburn, won fa cup twice with Liverpool & 3 League titles.

Like them or not ... All in all three pretty good managers.

Benitez - Fortunate to have Stevie G at his peak. Left Liverpool with a very expensive squad of very mediocre players.

Hodgson - Unfortunate to have Stevie G well past his sell by date.
Destined to be one of those managers best suited to managing teams with smaller budgets and less expectations.

Dalglish - Bought the title with Blackburn. Excellent record as Liverpool manager, but that was 20 years ago, left Liverpool a better team then they are now, and he couldn't cope with the pressure then when the cracks were beginning to show, so what's he going to be like now?

A bit simplistic I know, but got to go and watch Aston Villa show us what were missing.

sharrowblade has pretty much said what i want to especially about dalglish.an idol to them in his playing days and inherited a side that was winning cups under fagan but struggling with evertons great 80s side yet in his first season won the double that i still say everton threw away to this day.ironic that it was everton who broke him after the famous 4-4 draw.went to blackburn when uncle jack was buying every player going and won the league.went to newcastle and did nothing with them.they didnt have that much money then wonder why he never did anything ??? roy hodgson is forever going to be seen in england as a man who can take so called small clubs and make them achieve big things.he never had a prayer at the tin mine and was dead man walking.poor bloke.benitez was the man who broke barca real dominance in spain.that in itself is a huge achievement.he lost the plot in the end.i was scared when he first took them over as i respected benitez's record.ended up losing the plot.dalglish now back till end of the season when they'll probably get martin oneill to take over.dan is that clean enough for you ? Smile Very Happy

Benitez - a talented manager with a tendency to upset people - worst thing he ever did was go chasing Gareth Barry thinking he was better than Alonso - without Alonso Liverpool quickly became a one-paced team.

Hodgson - was on a loser from the start - the club was already in turmoil behind the scenes. I got the impression he had problems dealing with so-called superstars Eg Torres and Gerrard.

Dalglish - whatever he does till the end of season he will have the backing of the crowd. A couple of people have talked about him buying the league with Blackburn - its not as easy as that - ask Mark Hughes or Mancini. I do agree however about managers being out for a long time then coming back and not quite being at the races - eg John Toshack at Wales. Whatever the case his HEART will be in it - I didn't think Hodgsons was.

Not stupid enough to suggest Everton will beat Liverpool on Sunday (although of course if they are on their game they could well do) but, being strictly impassive about Liverpool at the moment you have to wonder how they can get too much of a tune out of a side made up of:

Johnson (the way he's defending) or young Kelly Agger Aurelio (who aren't bad) and Konchevsky (or The Greek)
Maxi - Lucas - Poulsen (or Babel) and Kuyt - although I hear Meireles is quite good..
Torres (in his current mood) and N'Gog

I'm saying that - minus Captain Starfish (2011 version), Jamie Carragedalot, Joe Cole (at his best) doesn't inspire too much long-term confidence. That said they'll probably put in a shift in the Derby. Whether they have enough on the road to dominate games against the better sides is questionable. They seem heavily reliant on Reina's brilliance.

hmmmm.......sort of agree with you on all of the points dan but its the derby aint it and it makes a player or it destroys a player.you can like for example lucas having a heavy influence for them in it cause the tackles will be going in you can also see everton been outfought in the middle cause they dont have that yarddog figure in our middle 4/5.looking at that side you've just named though.it does seem their outstanding player on current form is their goalkeeper !! when was last time we ever said that about them ??? torres aint there his spirit is gone but he could have one last stand against us at their hellhole.cole could come in and do really well if we let him run and dont close him down and try snap his leg lol.sorry joking aside they do look ordinary.i just hope that finally an everton player get revenge on that white dutch bastard who i wont name for his 4ft off the ground challenge on neville at goodison a few years ago and puts him in a wheelchair !!! he is the one that if i went that match id try to attack.yes i do really hate him that much.

The only smart move they have made was bringing in Steve Clarke as coach, and to be honest that's the only decision that has been positive for a good few years now. I don't think they appointed Hodgson with the future in mind they wanted him to come in and get top 6 straight away but with a poor squad this was never going to happen.

I don't think Kenny is the answer and he is probably going to lose the affection of the Liverpool fans particularly the younger generation who didn't see him play, the fans are going to have to put up with a couple of years of mid table obscurity as they just don't have the strength and depth to compete with the top 6 teams (and some would say the next 2/3 teams as well) Benitez may have brought Torres to the club but he also bought a load of rubbish, Aquilani being the worst siging of the lot, Babel, Ngog have had loads of chances and failed to do it when it matters IMO.
