Hello all, a friend was asking if I knew someone who could do restoration of football programmes - is there anyone members could recommend please? Specifically he's having trouble removing single programmes from a bound volume. Thank you.

Why would anyone want to remove programmes from a bound volume?

Sold separately they would, I understand that, and then there's the argument that collectors get the opportunity to buy a one off programme at a reasonable price. All perfectly understood

However, the romantic in me considers an old bound volume, is like a miniture work of art in their own right.

Its an act of sacrilege to break them up and think it all is a bit sad

There are occasions where one may purchase a bound volume for one programme. Say that is a postponed game where the programme is worth quite a bit while the remainder of the volume is basically not.

There are a few options here -
1. leave the bound volume as is and just take it that you have this programme, even though you cannot do much with it
2. unbind the volume and sell the remaining programmes individually or collectivelly
3. unbind the volume and then rebind without your individual programme

I know this is rare, but I am sure it does happen.

My friend has every programme bar one from the period all neatly kept in sleeves. He found the missing one as part of a bound volume which was quite pricey, so wants to recoup some money by selling the spares.

Have you considered speaking with a Bookbinder?

He would know doubt be able to unbind the volume and you would then have the individual issues. If he's a good bookbinder he should be able to effect repair to the holes created by the original binding.

I have seen numerous single sheet issues for sale at auction with holes where they have been removed from binders and those have sold successfully.

Thank you, I have suggested that to him, there is a good one close to where he lives.
