David Gaskell passed away last week aged 84.

As a 16yr old Schoolboy on United's books he went to the United v City in the Charity Shield in 1956 at Maine Road.

United's keeper Ray Wood got a hip injury so he had to go on in front of 30,495

He made his debut and United won 1-0-he was THAT good!.

Here are some original items regarding DG and quite a number that David owned. Thanks for Viewing

RIP Dave, the first keeper I remember watching on TV in the FA Cup Final - 1963. I think I recall Leicester hitting the post and the ball rebounding straight into his arms. But I was only 7.

He only played 96 league games for United in 10 years, when he left he joined non-league Wigan in about 1967 before returning to league football with Wrexham for about 3 seasons and another 95 league games.

He was an England Youth and schoolboy international.

Here he is letting one in for Wrexham in an FA Cup 4th round tie at Anfield in 1970 - a shot by Bobby Graham who got 2 in a 3-1 win.

RIP Dave.

Ian McNeil signed Dave for Wigan at the start of 1968/69 season the first year of the Northern Premier League.
Great signing for us being a Wigan lad, although he lived in Wrexham later.
Amazing that a player of that quality would join a non league club, pleased he made it back into league football with Wrexham after one season with us with Dennis Reeves a goalkeeper coming the other way from Wrexham who made 233 apps for Wigan.

Superb website for your Wigan and England Collections. My only comment would be starting with the oldest first, just my preference but excellent scans and great lay outs! Very Well Done!

Thanks Leslie appreciate your comments I regularly view your site as I have a Utd collection spanning the seasons from Munich to 1966/67 haven't got round to uploading those yet, enjoy all the rarities you find and upload plus the history.
Putting stuff online makes viewing a lot easier and convenient, I find I view my on line albums more frequently than the actual items.
