Doesn't look great
- Buyers pay an additional 4% fee so confusing for auction items
- Buyers pay an additional 75p per item - making lower value items significantly more expensive
- 24/7 phone support - but no indication where this will be based (India I would guess with agents following rigid/unhelpful scripts)
- Buyers will only be paid after delivery confirmed. eBay are pushing for everyone to use their own delivery services (they have branded it as Simple Delivery). If you use an untracked option then it will be a two week wait for funds, even tracked delivery means waiting at least 3 days
- They are not being at all transparent about the costs or postal methods available with Simple Delivery |

It spells the end for cheap programmes being listed on ebay
I used to list plenty of 99p programmes, but the buyers just won't be interested once you add the 4%, 75p minimum and the postage. A 99p programme, suddenly becomes £3 _________________ www.programmehut.com - The Internet Dealers

"Buyer Protection" my ar#e.
They're just trying to recoup their losses after scrapping sellers' charges. We all knew this would happen, or something like it.

What a bloody dog's breakfast. I am a firm believer in 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' Here the need for greed will bit them in the arse, and they will lose revenue. I suppose because they have a sort of monopoly they think they can do as they please. grrr
They fiddled about with the listings for programmes not that long ago, so now I don't bother looking as much as it is too cumbersome and I get fed up with typing in 'football programmes' all the time to avoid other junk in the listings!
Maybe a chance for someone who understands the hobby and is computer savvy to make a decent new selling site? |

So.....
As a buyer....
Say I buy a Buy-It-Now programme for £4.99 + free post......
At the checkout will I be charged,
£4.99 + 75p + 20p (4% fee) = £5.94??? |

It's a bit more complicated than that
My interpretation is that if a seller lists a programme buy it now for £4.99 plus free post then buyers would actually see it as a buy it now plus free post for £5.94. The buyer pays £5.94, the 95p deduction goes to eBay and the seller receives £4.99 after a two week wait.
Only if the seller listed the same programme for £4.08 buy it now would the buyer actually see (and pay) £4.99 |

Thanks for that colchestersid,
Yeah it is complicated,
Don't know why ebay just dont have a final sellers fee of 5% across the board so everyone knows where they are with the fees! |

So, can you list an item at, say, -£0.35 so that it would show on eBay at £0.40 and if so, is the 4% taken from the final £0.40 or the original -£0.35. If the latter, then the shown value on eBay would be £0.38 or £0.39 pending on how they do their rounding. I am guessing not. If the 4% is taken from the list price and not the list price plus £0.75, then the minimum amount that a buyer can pay would be £0.75, being that the list price is £0 and meaning also that the seller gets nothing, or even ends up paying to sell the item. I guess all items low cost items will now be so much more expensive. |

It looks like this will only affect private sellers and let's face it, Ebay no longer want them and are focusing on the bigger revenue streams they get from business sellers.
It's been heading this way for a long time.
It does seem ridiculous that they are expecting a private seller to post items out to people they don't know before the money is in their accounts, but I assume it will be held safely in limbo by Ebay (creaming any interest from their bank) until delivery has been confirmed?
That in itself will bring problems though.
1. An untracked item will be dependent on the buyer advising delivery I assume? It's hard enough for some of them to be bothered enough to leave feedback, so what happens if they don't acknowledge receipt of items?
2. A low value item that would usually be sent out using standard post costing for example 85p will probably now need to be tracked and will roughly treble the postage fee making it totally unviable.
As a business seller, I have been informed that nothing will be changing for me.....no additional charges and payouts to me staying exactly as they are now (at the point of sale on a daily basis). |

I think the main change is to get rid of the low value items per your point 2 and thus preventing lots of low value 'item not received' claims.
I'm sure ebay would much prefer higher value sales rather than having to administer lots of 99p auctions.
As said earlier in the post, it's a perfect opportunity to fill than niche of low value items using a new/different platform, but lets be honest no one is going to bother and thus the end of picking up a programme for 99p + postage.
I have previously given this some thought over the last few years, but just can't see how it would pay for it's self. As much as I would love to try it, I just can't see anything other than a £££ drain _________________ www.programmehut.com - The Internet Dealers

Like has already been mentioned this is to recoup money from what they lost doing free sellers' listings. I thought it was too good to be true. They're sh*t scared of Vinted, that's the main problem here! If you google Vinted now Ebay's site tops the search list with Vinted in second place. You couldn't make it up! |

I preferred the time when eBay charged for anything over 99p. What it did then was encouraged sellers to start low and hope for a higher bid. It also meant that higher priced items concentrated minds on asking prices. Today, there are programme on eBay for silly opening bids. There is no chance in these prices ever being reached. There is no need to list them we all know which ones they are. They just litter the pages.
I only collect Leyton programmes so know what exactly they are worth. Take the 1952 Amateur Cup Final at Wembley Leyton v Walthamstow Avenue. The limit of this programme is £4.99. The attendance that day was 98,000 and therefore has to be the most available programme. Yet some sellers think they stand a chance at £19.99. |
