Changes to private selling on eBay
Hi Giorgio,

We want to let you know about some upcoming changes to seller fees and to payment options when selling locally. These will be effective from 1 October 2024.

Free listing allowance change
Currently, private sellers can list up to 1,000 items a month for free on eBay. From 1 October, this will decrease to 300 listings per month. After you've used your monthly allocation of 300 free listings, you'll be charged 35p for each new listing created.

Find out more about listing fees

International fee change
If your registered address is in the UK, we charge an international fee when the delivery address for the item is outside the UK.

Until now this fee has varied by region. Starting from 1 October there will be a flat rate of 3% across all shipping regions. This will be calculated on the total amount of the sale which includes the item price, any handling charges, postage, and any applicable taxes.

Removing cash on pickup for local listings
Many sellers offer free collection in person, especially for large items which may be difficult to post. As we continue to make sure eBay is a safe and secure place to sell your items, we will be removing the option for buyers to pay with cash for items from 1 October. Instead, all payments for local items will go through the site - with a simple digital confirmation on collection - to ensure that you get paid securely and promptly by buyers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Eff me. Really? I suppose much of this is being done to increase their profits. Good luck. Just means less listings and sales as far as I'm concerned.

Alternatively, just open more ebay accounts if you need more than 300 listings a month

Agreed. Open an account in the wife's name on a different user name and E Mail address. There is no way they can stop you doing that even if you control both accounts.

OK the sale proceeds will go to an account in her name but you can always do a periodic transfer of the monies back to your account.

I am not saying I do that but ..................

Really is no need to be so stealthy with regards multiple accounts. Ebay don't care how many accounts a single user has. The only restriction is to avoid buying and selling restrictions or limits. These restrictions aren't selling limits, it refers to accounts that may have been suspended for breach of rules or poor feedback.

Accounts can be limited, but again it's not in reference to selling limits within the free listings.

I have operated a number of accounts simultaneously as I have sold different items on different accounts and aren't the same target audience for each account so it made more sense to have several.

So, register as many accounts as you want/need, but you will get inactive emails if you register accounts and not use them

It's not just the amount of listings. Fees for international sales are increasing significantly - more than double for European sales.

Yeah, it’s pretty frustrating. Reducing the free listings limit that drastically is going to hurt. I’ll definitely have to be more selective with what I list now. The cash on pickup thing really stings too – I used it all the time for local sales. Feels like they’re pushing private sellers to the side in favor of bigger businesses.
