A few years ago I purchased a few hundred Gillingham home match press photos that dated between 1979 and 1983.
None had any information of the matches attached, but I believe that they were originally taken for potentially being used in the Gillingham match day programmes. Whether they were or not, I have no idea.

I've finally got around to sorting them out and identifying the opponents and some players and have nailed about 75% of the photos so far, but I've spent days trawling through old Gills programmes and the historical kit site and hit a stumbling block now and need some help please.

I'm only listing a few for now to see where it takes us.

1. 1979/80 as Gills are in their Bukta kit. Keeper looks familiar, but eluding me. I also thought the bearded guy looked like Tony Grealish who was at Luton that season, but it doesn't look like a Luton kit to me.

2. 1979/80 again and the striped collar should help

3. 1979/80 again and why can't I find a team sponsored by Barratt??

4. 1980/81 Three defenders may help. The guy on the ball looks familiar

5. Either 1981/82 or 1982/83 Again the sponsor should help..Central Murfield?

6. Again either 81/82 or 82/83 I thought it could have been Bournemouth due to the badge, but it's not

7. Finally 81/82 or 82/83 again. The guy on the floor looks really familiar

Picture 4 is Chesterfield. Player on the ball is Bill Green, the one watching is Geoff Salmons. The defender on the floor might be John Ridley

Picture 3 is probably Chester - Barratt's sponsored them 1979-81. Change kit as they were usually in broad blue & white stripes.

Picture 5 - probably Huddersfield Town - Central Mirfield sponsored them 1982/3 & 83/4.

Picture 6 - could be Bristol City 1981/2, they had their large badge central and also the Coffer Sports logo on right breast, but without a sponsor here. That's 81/2 only.

Picture 2 - Burnley had striped collars like this but they didn't play till 1980/1

I thought Burnley for the striped collars as I'm sure they wore that kit against us (Spurs) in the League Cup around that time.

I've looked at that one for days now. I don't think it's either Plymouth or Colchester as I have identified other photos involving them and although the kits are similar to theirs, it doesn't look exact.

Still looking though!

I think the first picture is v Barnsley, goalkeeper is (I could be wrong) Gary Pierce.
Joined 1979 until 1983 the right time period

NO 5 looks like Huddersfield as the blonde hair player looks like Mark Lilles.

Had a closer look, the Chesterfield defender on the floor is Andy Kowalski
