Can foxing be removed?

Hi everyone
Can anyone confirm whether foxing can be removed from material?
I have a 1931 Fa cup handkerchief but don’t want to risk ruining it in the wash!
Any advice appreciated even if it is to leave it as it is

I can't speak for items like this Holtie, probably too valuable & fragile.

But, I cleaned a couple of sorry-looking 1966 World Cup Willie fabric patches up a treat by putting them inside a plain white, clean pillowcase, sealing it with safety pins, and putting it through a cool wash in the machine. Came out looking like new.

I certainly wouldn't recommend it for this though, I'd be too afraid. They were only worth a tenner each in good nick.

My advice would be to leave it as it is if you're unsure of any process, many collectors prefer items in their original condition, foxing et al. It's often said it adds character to an item, shows that it's lived a life.

You don't want it looking like it's too good to be true.

Also an item such as this needs to be framed in my opinion and a mount around the edges would hide the marks, well maybe 90% but in going down that route i would take a photo as it looks prior to the framing and paste on the rear so any prospective customer can see the before and after knowing that it has been framed/mounted as a genuine attempt to simply "cover up" for a pleasing aesthetic appearance as against covering it up and not advising the defect. IMO that route would ensure a trouble free sale as honesty is the only policy.
