Hi all,

I am looking to complete my collection. Wondering if anyone has for sale any Chelsea home postponed programmes 1947-74.
There are 18, of
Which 15 are known to certainly exist.
Sensible prices only please, I have been collecting for 50 years.

Best wishes

Hello Kilfie,

Good luck in your quest to complete your Chelsea postponed homes. I do not have any spares for sale but still require 7 programmes myself to complete my collection.

Cheers
Martin

Hello there,

Yes it exists. I have a copy.
It is extremely rare. I know of only 5/6 other examples.
Perhaps there are more out there!

Best wishes

Hi, on this topic, does anyone know if a programme was produced for Liverpool's visit to Chelsea on 13th January 1968 (match postponed).
thanks.

With regards to the chelsea v pompey postponed on your list.........

None appear on Pompeys postponed list so you can pretty sure no programmes were issued.....BUT...If they do exist I love to see a scan.

Of course 62/63 season was wiped out for about 6 weeks through snow.

Hello there,

I know a person who owns one of them. He knows another who owns both of the 62/63 ones, 16.2.63 and 20.2.63.
They both have the same photo on the front, the same one used for the next played home game, v Huddersfield 2.3.63.
Apparently, though I've not seen it myself, the postponed Leeds 2.2.63 also has the same photo.

Best wishes

In addition,

The postponed programme v Portsmouth 12.2.47 is not known to exist. However, according to the sources I enquired into years ago, the printers needed a minimum of 3 days before publication.
As the previous game, 8.2.47, v Middlesbrough, was postponed, it is entirely possible for both that programme and the Portsmouth one to exist, due to time parameters.
Of course, it would be completely normal for all examples to be destroyed in the furnace before delivery to Stamford Bridge.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes

From what I recall of the pitch at Stamford Bridge during the 60/70s, this list should be a lot longer!

And as for the Baseball Ground, Derby..........well....sandcastles were called for!

Who remembers them painting the penalty spot, ahead of a penalty kick on MOTD. Ah nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.

I have a scan of one already.
However, I have not been given permission to share it as yet. And I am keeping my word to keep it unseen, until I'm told it's OK to do otherwise. I respect the person and value the trust and friendship.
Rest assured however, I will post a scan here, if and when I recieve that permission.
With such a rare item, it is understandable that one guards the item closely. Actually knowing that the item (s) exist (s) is fulfilling enough for some. I do appreciate however, that "seeing is believing". I will state, that I personally have no reason to lie.. And I don't intend to start now. The 16.2.63 is the one I have a scan of.
Now you know as much as I do about it, except who owns it (them).
Sorry I cannot, at this moment in time, be more helpful.

Best wishes

Yes! How very true!
The thought occurred to me a few months ago that a more expensive buy of a modern programme, the Chelsea v Barcelona 20.4.66, is only compared to the PP Man Utd programme straight after the Munich air crash.

Great thread, all of these are very rare. The club obviously had a habit of destroying programmes for postponed games probably due the value of the tokens printed on the back. I only have 3 of these myself and rarely see them for sale.

Strange that the Barcelona game was always thought to be a non issue and then 2 have appeared on Ebay in recent months. One sold for £1600 and the other £1400.

From a collectors perspective how do we evaluate a “postponement” and how do you record your teams postponements?

I personally don’t record a game as being postponed if the game has to be rescheduled due to one of the teams being involved in a Cup -Tie.

For example, in terms of the 08.02.47 Chelsea v Middlesbrough postponement, Boro were involved in a FA Cup tie on this date v Notts Forest so I wouldn’t record it as a postponement.

Am I right or wrong?

Why would that not count as a postponement? It was scheduled for 8-2-47 and postponed to another date due to Boro's cup commitments. What is it if not a postponement?

Hello Rocky,

In nearly every such case, you make a valid point. However, according to all sources I've enquired into, this game was postponed at a late date due to weather conditions, not due to a rearranged Cup game being played instead.
It may well be that the Middlesbrough Cup game was rearranged upon the postponement of this league game.
Hence, it is classed, the league game, as a postponement, due to adverse weather conditions.

Best wishes
