I have just had my first paypal dispute logged against me on ebay. This is the first contact I have had from the buyer who is (typically) based in South Korea. Why are the only problems I ever get on my sales from overseas bidders!!

He has opened the case on the first day he could.

Stupidly I have not got proof of postage as I chucked it away thinking I had finished my ebaying this side of christmas.

By not having proof of postage am I going to have to take the hit on this?

There was a time when you could have a discussion on paypal, but now it seems to side very much with the buyer and looks a little open to abuse!

Well I don't know but I've had about 3 disputes - 1 I got full refund, one partial and the third one was cash so I was well screwed (about a tenner). I guess once you're bit you tend to get receipts.

Hopefully not too much lost for you - but I suspect your buyer might not have allowed a reasonable amount of time (or is just pulling a flanker?). If you think he's honest (check his history?) maybe just tell paypal it's on the way and he should wait a bit longer - maybe he is genuine but naive?

Even if you don't have the receipt for proof of postage, still make a query at your post office. You should have his address details on Paypal, and if you can remember when it was you posted the item - check when you received payment and try to work it out from there. Do you do it the next day etc? In which case it's not difficult to piece it all together. The Post Office will wait 25 days before any search is instigated for overseas packages.
Contact Paypal, tell them the steps you're taking and that you aim to bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.

I would be very upset if someone opened a dispute without contacting me first. He should allow at least two weeks for item to arrive but I suspect he's upto no good. Always keep your receipts for 45 days even if feedback has been left.

I've had 100s of deals with people overseas both on and off ebay. Never had a problem as a seller to be honest.

But I stopped using ebay to sell a while ago but for some reason I put one programme on there late last year. The buyer failed to pay or respond and he was in the UK and had 250 positive feedbacks. I gave him more then two weeks and not a peep. I was more annoyed that I couldn't leave negative feedback to warn others then the few bob he cost me in listing fees.

Just showing that it's not allways overseas buyers. But the fact that any dispute is so cut and dried now shows me I was right to do away with ebay and I'm hoping to get rid of paypal too this year.

Paypal is getting worse for the sellers. The proof of sending is not enough anymore, you need the proof of delivery as well.

I personally sell items to the UK and Europe only, with recorded or special delivery for the UK, and 'signed for' delivery for Europe.

Yes but the problem with covering yourself with delivery is the cost of it and that added on effect to buyers.

If they put the postage up 10% which is the minimum I expect then then smallest recorded delivery will be about £1.25 meaning you need to sell you cheapest ebay item at about £3.00 if you use paypal;

Cost to buyer 2.44 - (0.99p sold + 1.25p postage + 20p packing)

Cost to you 56p - Ebay list (bussines) 15p + FV fee 11p + paypal fee 30P

Realised price for item after costs - 43p
