Hello all.
Just thought I would flag up a documentary on ITV4 next Tuesday that may appeal to some of you.
Based around my book of the same title, 'Stuck On You' tells the story of how Panini stickers came to dominate the UK collectables market from the late 1970s...and then how Merlin stole their crown in the 1990s.
Starts at 10.15pm following England v Brazil. |

Cheers for the heads-up Greg, it's appreciated.
I saw this was going to be on, but your post will help me not to forget mate.
My short-term memory these days is about as trustworthy Big Fat Sam sat drinking pints of wine with a group of Arabs.
One to watch for sure, especially for us kids of the 70s.
Argentina '78 was my first sticker book collection, I was ten.
Great memories.

I was hooked thereafter Greg and Football '79 was my first 'general' sticker collection, and I remember Kenny Dalglish being like gold dust in our school!!
I think Football '81 was my final collection, as I was finally allowed to go to watch County on my own when I turned 12, so all my pocket money went on that from that point on.
Football '81 & Football '82 were the only ones to actually feature Newport County.

I'm working on it.
I made a big thing about the crest and got my wish. _________________ NEWPORT COUNTY & GENERAL FOOTY BADGES:

I really enjoyed this last night. I certainly learnt a few things and I actually had the Team 90 sticker album which I believe was the first Merlin football sticker album.
Just waiting for a documentary on football pin badge collecting next year now. |

Yes it was a terrific hour of nostalgia, loved it.
And Robert Maxwell somehow managed to achieve the impossible by confirming he was even more of a shyster than I thought previously. _________________ NEWPORT COUNTY & GENERAL FOOTY BADGES:

Fair to say he wasn't the hero in this tale! |

Great programme with a nice appearance from GregL.
I played cricket with a bloke who was a printer at Mirror Group, he lost all his pension to that "shyster". I'd add a few adjectives to that and had no idea about his Panini/Merlin connection. One of the best days in history when he went overboard. |

Yep, completely agree with the comments already aired , he must have been a right vindictive old fart and there doesn't seem to be many people mourning his demise. But it was good to see the lads that started Merlin up coming good in the end, must have taken a lot of nerve to carry on with the chance of losing everything a possibility, and writs flying around everywhere |

A real joy.
Glad I am not the only who feels it is part of the whole World Cup etc and never seem to finish..
Kudos to all involved... a wonderful hour. |

Was an excellent watch.
Nostalgia buffs might also enjoy Shankly: Nature's Fire which was inexplicably only shown on BBC2 Scotland on Sunday night.
It was the best football documentary I've seen in years and the good news is it is on the i-player |

Agree with all the previous comments.
What a great hour of viewing.
Probably the best documentary I've watched since "Get Shirty", the story of Admiral's rise and fall. |

Glad to see the documentary was well-received. I am pleased I went to the effort of writing the book in the first place as it ended up being a far more intriguing tale than even I had anticipated. |
