I'm trying to compile a list to try and de-code the numerous ticket stubs i have from Anfield with no opposition identified. The clues i'm trying to work from are (a) the background print (b) details on the reverse of the stub (c) sponsor info (d) "series" (e) Visitors location in the Annie Road
(f) print quality & font.

I know i'm not the first to try this but if any of you have verified stubs absent opposition detail i'd appreciate whatever info you have and I'll post a list built from my own collection and feedback from others.

This has driven me nuts for years and it's time to solve the mystery.
Collective brain power is needed.

Hi Steve

yes - tried many times to work this all out and have been left baffled most of the time - most of the people on ebay are guessing although some guesses are pretty awful - there's a candy ticket on ebay at the moment apparently for Benfica in 1984 - I don't think so!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Live.....2570395186

All I can do is try and give you a few pointers based off my league collection:

The ticket background changed at the start of 1971/72 season

The first league tickets that have telephone details for the club are 79/80 season - also on this season there are details of match sponsors eg Liverpool Echo or Simon Shirts

84/85 - ground plans appear on the back of tickets - Souvenir shop still at back of Kop

These are following amendments to the plan on back of tickets:

85/86 - league tickets become longer and include the emblem on top of the Crown paints logo - away supporters still in left hand corner of Annie Rd end and visitors seating also indicated.

86/87 - league tickets show souvenir shop up until December 86 - thereafter it is split with the Development association and is clearly shown as 2 different areas.

88/89 - souvenir shop moved to Anfield rd end - development assoc split still in 2 as at 22/10/88 by 29/3/89 development association just one block

89/90 - visitors area moved to behind goal - oddly on some tickets development association are split as 2 again depending on what tickets you get (on the grey background they are still split whilst on red background they are one block) Also by Dec 89 a police area was set up in Anfield rd end and the Shankly Gates noted on ticket.

90/91 - first aid areas added to plan on ticket by police area and in paddock

92/93 - centenary stand replaces Kemlyn Rd

1994 - kop rebuilt

So going off all this I would split any ticket stubs without a plan as pre 84/85 and then work off the above to start with.

The late 80s early 90s ones which are when Candy were sponsors are easier to identify. If you need any assistance with them let me know.

Its very disappointing that the guy in charge of the museum showed no interest in helping when I sent him a letter.

Hope this helps a little

Cheers John

John

Been fiddling around with your helpful information. Couple of immediate observations.

I have both the round 3 & 4 stubs from the 1970-71 FA Cup run with opposition named as Aldershot and Swansea. The Swansea is on the updated background with the Aldershot on the old background. They are both dated in a January 1971.

I have a series "E" stub which I had reliably purchased as Carlisle from the 1977 cup run. It has no phone details but does have a ground plan with the souvenir shop behind the Kop near The Albert. I also have the named Oldham game from the same cup run which has no details on the back.

I also have an Everton League Game dated 21st March 1981 with the ground plan to the rear. It seems the ground plan was added much sooner
than 1985.

More to consider I guess.

Steve

Hi Steve,

with regards the plan on the back of the tickets - I have a ticket from the same game for the main stand with no plan. So I had a quick look through my stuff and ones which may be all ticket matches may have the plans on them - eg Everton or Utd. for parts of the ground which you would normally pay on the gate for. Also tickets for the away end may be like this. On the ones that I have seen it says GROUND TICKET spion Kop or Anfield Rd Enclosure. Generally 84/85 would be a good marker for this.

Cheers John
