Yes these incredible badges came from nowhere and like Aliens perhaps disappeared into thin air.
They came in all colours of Red-Blues, White, Green, Gold, Purple and probably others too.
Big Time International players were featured as well as the mere mortal everday players-even some obscure players who were up and coming but were part of a big football club.
Before the days of social media before the days of scanners, photoshop, copiers, printers of every size and shape were a small number of nameless folks who produced pictures and stuck them onto plastic coloured badges in the shape of a star from the 1950-1960-1970's and then they were gone.
It looks like a one man band cottage industry perhaps who had "agents" or sellers at the biggest clubs grounds working the star badges every Saturday but there was never any markings on the badges to see where they came from and it is now probably an impossible task to find out who was behind it unless someone knows it was Uncle Bert and his Mrs!.
I would like this thread now to continue with any members putting images of any of the star badges in their collections so we can all see the variety and the depth.
I am aware that there were square shaped badges too and heart shaped for the girls and also some others that were girly and "sweet heart" types, but i do not know if they all emanated from the same source of supply!
So i am going to kick it off with a few images and let us see where it takes us!

I don't have any myself, but my mum, who used to travel the country following the Edinburgh Monarchs speedway, has a couple of these with pictures of Monarchs riders from the 60s.
If it was one guy doing it, he was a very busy bee!
Great collection by the way Leslie, I do enjoy having a glimpse every now and then, and reading your column in PM.
Cheers

I'm invariably drawn towards those images you've linked whenever I gaze at your collection Leslie.
Such a stunning array!
It would be impossible to have a leaning for badges and not 'drool' insatiably over those, no matter who you support.
Sadly my lads never featured among the plastic stars, Uncle Bert never deemed us worthy enough I guess.
The callous swine.

Great Badges at great prices, cannot remember their exact prices when I bought them in the early sixties. That was all that was available to the supporter in those days.
I have got 17 star badges with Crystal Palace on them and a further 5 Palace badges where the previous club they played has been 'tippexed' out or what ever they used in those days. Used to have them pinned on my black and white wooly hat. The hat has long gone but the badges are now well looked after.

Sorry, I hate them with a passion. Wouldn't buy vintage ones if they were a quid each I know that makes me wrong, but really never liked them! There's always one! |

I remember these, I had Tommy Tynan in mine!
No idea what happened to it though.
Would have thought it was more like 1980 than 1982 though?
I was 14 in '82 and had stopped buying Footy Mags, having discovered girls. _________________ NEWPORT COUNTY & GENERAL FOOTY BADGES:

just a bit-but in the end more costly than buying those magazines and the pleasure lasted about 60 seconds _________________ To see 20,00++ original items relating to Newton Heath & Manchester Utd 1878-2023 then visit www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets to see entire uploads.

well it does not make you 2 "wrong" at all, as items such as that simply are not "your thing".
Each person to their own of course to follow whatever path they choose, after all it's your brass and u can do with it whatever u wish!

Mine are here http://theleftback.co.uk/Players.html
Must say, I am not the greatest fan of these kinds of badges but they are a part of history. |

Just recently obtained a couple of new additions-both goal keepers and both as far player memorabilia for a couple who played just 4 & 11 games each respectively for Manchester United-are considered to be "hens teeth"
https://flic.kr/p/S4hgk1
https://flic.kr/p/RHgvcj
Both players eventually left United, one going to Leyton Orient and the other firstly to Swansea Town and then Swindon Town.
Apologies to Dorking for showing more as i know he "ates em"
