Ask if a member of the Forum who lives in the area would collect for you and send on in return for petrol. |

I only put in token gesture bids at Staceys as I knew the postage would be extortionate.
I was recently as mentioned on a previous post charged £20 odd pounds for a single programme at another auction when I had to use Jentel Packing. So you got off lightly for 60 progs.
If I know postage is fair as with Sportingold I will bid more. |

I collected mine as we made a day trip to Southend it was only for a few football cards but at least I was in the wife's good books for taking her out.
Seems I could have helped a few on here but my packing skills are terrible. |

As you say Sportingold's post/packing charges are fair and not over the top. I was charged £7.17 for an A3 sized handbook by Sportingold they also broke the invoice down to postage and also packing so I know what each cost. This was also sent signed for and included insurance. |

I've been buying postcards lately at various auctions and have kept a note of charges and time taken. Here are my findings - all involved a few postcards in a small board-backed envelope.
LODDON
Commission inc VAT 18%
Packing £0
Postage 1st class signed for £1.50
Time taken 2 days
SPORTINGOLD
Commission inc VAT 20%
Packing £3 (although to be fair Chris offered to waive that)
Postage 1st class signed for £1.75
Time taken 2/3 days
SHEFFIELD
Commission inc VAT 21%
Packing £8 (reduced from the statutory £10)
Postage 1st class signed for £1.93
Time taken 8 days
You can draw your own conclusions from that.
I also bought a huge box of photos from Dave Alexander @ Staceys, Dave shipped that at cost and instantly without even waiting for me to complete payment. Top man |

The item I bought from Sportingold cost me a bit extra on the postage because of the price I paid for it as I asked for extra insurance. |

I have noticed, at some cost, that some of these auction houses use Third Parties, to collect and send out your items. However, you have to arrange delivery with them, as the auction houses wont get involved with sending out items.
2 Weeks ago I had 2 pay £20 as a minimum charge, for a parcel that would normally be around £3.50 with Royal Mail.
With auction houses getting around 45% of the hammer price in fees, you would think that they would offer a better service.
One piece od advice. Read their T & C's especially the paragraphs on delivery |

I bought a few programmes from Staceys, emailed Dave Alexander and he posted them at cost too. Might be worth a shout. |
