Same age as me, died recently of a brain tumour. I remember seeing him play for Swindon as a young bloke, thinking I wish we'd sign him. But we never did and he was finished from he pro game aged 28, for some reason. Getting some lovely comments on Twitter now.

Here he is in action for Swindon in an FA Cup tie v Hitchin Town, 1976

RIP Dave, far too young.

Remember him at Mansfield. His hat trick at Mansfield against Spurs in 77/78, was excellent. He also scored the first goal against Stoke & Shilton.
Always gave 100%.
I think he was only 60.
Thanks for the memories, Dave

I was at Mansfield when he scored that hat trick against us and gave our defence a torrid time.
Awful weather and a proper mud bath of a pitch didn't help, but it's a game that I remember well from what was my first season of really travelling away with the Spurs.
Can't say that I remember much about Dave Syrett, but we all knew his name that day.
RIP Dave
