Pete, Would you like me to show it on my Twitter page? I do the odd quiz on there and I'm astounded by some peoples knowledge. Might be worth a try?

When Bolton played at Derby in the Cup in 76/77, their away strip was red shirts and white shorts.

There's a clip on YouTube of 73/4 Brighton v Walton & Hersham, Pete - maybe check that out and compare with the photo? Looks promising!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSIxrAEzQZE

I think the two video clips on YouTube are from the first game not the replay?

Sharrow....Steve........

Ignore my last re the game being played at night, just discovered it was played at 1.45 on a Wednesday afternoon due to the power crisis Homer

I'm going to bed!

Still don't think it's Peter Ward though....

Do think it's Wright and Ritson

Night all!

The 'Bolton' player mostly hidden between what may be Ritson & O'Sullivan could be Garry Jones, not sure if he would have played in the game though?

If it was Jones I've just discovered he passed away on Wednesday aged just 65, another one gone Sad

RIP

just going to throw this one out.

Given the Brighton kit looks like 1973-4 (the only season that matches with the kit),...... could it be the FA cup replay against Walton and Hersham where Brighton famously lost 4-0.

Walton and Hersham wore all red and the Steve Kindon look-a-like does resemble Walton's Dave Morris

Don't think so as the replay at Brighton was a night game in November Sherlock

But it wasn't RVD it was a 1:45pm kick off

Thanks again chaps

I still think it's Peter Ward

Actually the geezer in the striped shirt looks a bit old for Peter Ward. Funnily enough what looks more like Peter Ward is your 3rd picture of the opposition.

When you said possibly all red for the oppo my initial though was could it be Orient ?

This is Peter Ward in November 1976 when aged 21, taken in an away game at Selhurst Park.

Again, I think this is the same bloke in the original photo, at about the same time.

Our friend RVD has kindly stuck it onto Twitter - any news, Ruud?

I have it confirmed it's NOT Wolves, Burnley and Shrewsbury. If it is Bolton and I wouldn't argue about possibly being Ritson & Wright, but then it isn't Ward unless it's 1978 or 79 which rules out Wright & Ritson!

Evening all.

Shocking response on Twitter despite my optimism so I sent it direct to BWFCTalk.com who replied agreeing that it looked like Wright, Ritson & Jones and that the Steve Kindon lookalike could be Alan Waldron.

Can Oldbolt confirm whether Waldron played in the April 1972 game please?

I still think there's a chance that 'Peter Ward' could be Peter O'Sullivan pictured below. Again, can it be confirmed that he played in the game in question?

Good work Ruud and I agree it looks like O'Sullivan in that photo. I've only ever seen him with some face fur

Yes Alan Waldron did play.I've seen black and white photos from Blackburn away in 70/71 and Chelsea away in 71/72 that looked like Bolton were playing in all red.

OK, guys, I'l go with:-

Brighton v Bolton 22nd April 1972 D 1-1 - Div 3

Peter O'Sullivan
Charlie Wright
John Ritson
Alan Waldron
Garry Jones

Thanks for all your help and sorry for persisting with the "Peter Ward" theory for so long.
