Are we now past the point where nothing surprises us any longer? How far are we from a manager being 'removed' for winning every league game and all the cups available to himself, only for an owner to remove said manager claiming 'he could have done it better'? As a Scunthorpe supporter I look at Derby and Sheff Utd and think you had a decent season. I think we all need to calm down a bit and reinstall some realism to our expectations. Having said that they I can see how removing Russ Wilcox as Scunthorpe manger had it's merits although I also see how harsh it was. To be fair he was never the chairmans choice, but while he was not losing games, it was hard to then get his choice in.

There’s some typical characteristics of the recent managerial casualties

Sheff Utd, Stevenage & Derby - failure to win promotion

Leeds & Blackpool - Chairmen who are out of control!

Leyton Orient - relegation

Watford - Greed (from the manager)

It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Robins at Scunny next season, if the rumours of a real promotion push for next season are true - splashing the cash etc.

Whereas we have John Sheridan who almost got us up, and who has improved the side every year spending almost nothing.

So the masses want him out ...

Which is why fans shouldn't run football clubs Smile

"Watford - (Greed from the Manager)"

Seriously?

What is the average weekly wage of a Premier League manager? £30k, £50k, £100k?? I understand the Watford manager was looking for £20k a week, plus an end of season bonus to keep them up. Is that greed or looking for a fair wage in the division? I'd say a fair wage IMO.

What's your opinion on Brentford FC and not renewing Mark Warburton's rolling contract?

A mad owner? People have no idea within the club?

The figures regarding the Watford boss vary but allegedly turned down over half a million a season which plus bonuses is a decent wedge more than he’ll get at his next job I’d wager.

Warburton situation is ludicrous, he’s taken a team and had them playing superb football and to be binned off for not wanting interference from the top is harsh.

I understand he’s in advanced talks with Sheff Utd so we’ll see if that info is correct and if so how he does with the expectation of promotion.

If Sky are correct in the bees new choice of manager it’s a big risk.

It's not greed though. Greed is a young 20 year old that supposedly wants to win trophies and turns down circa £100k plus a week. Now that is ludicrous. Let's see how he does over the next few years. The young and their agents are greedy.

It was Mark Warburton's choice to move on. Not the other way round. He was happy to use the stats up to this season, but then decides it's not for him, so it's a - see you later.

He won't be going to Sheffield United. A couple of London clubs are sniffing around and a team up North of the border.

Our new coach is a risk, just as much as Watford FCs risk when they had 4 coaches in one season, it didn't affect them at all. Marinus Dijkhuisen could be a top coach, who knows, he did well at excelsior and his other clubs.

I, personally, cannot wait. A new way of thinking in a game that's been stuck in its ways for many years, especially in England.

I agree greed with Sterling, Watford’s boss is a fool and pushed his luck, Watford’s bosses don’t take fools gladly and he’s replaceable. So I stand by greedy.

As for Warburton yes he knew the system and chose to walk away but it’s still harsh treatment by the club considering how much he’s achieved. Benham hasn’t made many mistakes if any in his running of his clubs and he must see something in the Excelsior boss if that’s the final choice. It’ll be interesting to see where Warburton ends up, whether it be Sheff Utd, north of the border or the london clubs. I’d be surprised if he’s out of work for long.

A good friend of mine is a big Bees fan and speaks very highly of Warburton and his family and with Scotty Hogan and Jack O’Connell now with you I keep an eye out for how they do. Although unlikely I hope O’Connell isn’t involved at the Bees and heads back to Rochdale - quality player.

What do make of Dawson? We seem pleased to have him.

Dawson’s a quality player - sad to see him go - a really nice bloke as well, the only question mark is his fitness, in the year when he was with us he only was fit to start about half the games. He won’t score you many goals but will add bite to your midfield. My understanding is he got a fantastic deal which Dale couldn’t get close to.

Yes. I was looking at the betting for a new manager. Same old names, nothing to get excited about. To be honest, lets face it, the middle , bottom half of the Premiership is pretty dire, made up of overpaid journey men. And it's all about luck. Luck over a season can give you an extra ten points. The difference between mid table or relegation. You don't need a good manager. You need a lucky one Laughing

Sam Allardyce? Never mind his style of football, his record of improving every club he's been at is fantastic.

How many managers per season are "successful"??????
Premier Champions, Div 1,2 &3 champions, and promotion winners.
Premier runners up on stony ground, if they are previous champions.
FA Cup winners?? doubtful as competition progressively devalued by awkward kick off times and Prem managers fielding weakened sides although a good cup run could be deemed a success unless it's at the expense of possible promotion.
League cup winners, also very doubtful as clubs and fans don't become serious about it until they get a sniff of the "Twin Towers"(as used to be)
Qualifying for Europe, a bit dodgy that one as it doesn't keep a manager in his job,
Qualifying for Europa League, a poisoned chalice apparently, not deemed a success by most, (although players not in the Premier top four who want to play in Europe may see it differently). "Sod the fans let's put the reserves in".
Staving off Premiership relegation, success of a sort depending on how realistic and sensible the chairman is.
So how many successful managers are there I reckon about 80 could be looking for new job before the next season starts, whenever that is.

Mark Warburton to Glasgow Rangers. Along with David Weir as assistant. I think that's his/their next move and a good one.

He's a good guy, knowledgable and trustworthy. Give him time to build a squad and Rangers will go up. Don't lump pressure on to him, although he can take the pressure!

You'll see attacking football and football on the floor. If he can pick up the right players, expect a good season. Smile

Good luck MW and DW. Smile

From what I can gather he was interviewed for the United job but he’s a sensible man not going to the blades.

Seems to be a straight choice between Warburton & McCall for the Rangers job. I wonder whether the Weir factor will swing it Warburtons way.

From what I know, he never spoke with Sheffield United, he spoke to one club in the North West and a West London club. The reason he didn't want to speak with Sheffield United was because of David Weir and his short tenure there, as DW was shipped out because he tried to do things differently and wasn't allowed the time. MW needs time to get the players playing his way. Sheffield want a quick fix, that's why Clough went. Not the right club.

I was told he did but it doesn’t matter whether he did or he didn’t.

Whatever, I agree that it wouldn’t be the right club - United think they have a god given right to automatic promotion, the treatment of Clough was shabby and their history suggests that failure by Adkins will lead to being sacked.

In the absence on a manager at least it makes the close season more interesting.

Personally I am sad Sheridan went...but he never won the fans over despite three seasons of improvement every year...fans are so blinkered...we still operate on a a restricted budget courtesy of the administration, but want us to pay up contracts to get a new bloke with a release clause etc when the owner has lent us millions just to keep us going!

So current front runners are

Derek Adams...any views welcome from north of the border...we have had a mixed bag of Wlliamson and Sturrock

Coughlan..ex player, super popular...but the so was Mariner when he came back and ...oops!

Steve Lomas but would we get the St Johnstone or the Millwall version

Brian McDermott ( far and away the fans choice0

Throw in Adams, Awford, Warnock and a few others that always rear their heads...

Yikes...

Peter
