Hi,
I just wondered If anybody knows how much it costs to make a programme ?
It needs to be high quality & I am looking to produce about 500 copies.
Does anybody know any companies produce programmes?
Any info on prices will be appreciated as its something I really want to make for my birthday.
Thanks

A lot depends on the size of the programme and the number of pages you are looking to incorporate. Also do you want it full colour or just black on white with a couple of spot colours. What quality of paper do you want to print it on?

Costs can vary widely depending on what you want. Speak to your local printers. They will be experienced in brochure production and will give you a quote based on how many you want to produce.

Full colour, high quality paper (100 gsm gloss or semi-gloss) and 500 copies at 42 pages each - you'll be looking at a tidy sum with a commercial printer there mate. My local printer would be looking at the thick end of a £800 to a grand presuming you've designed it yourself. Shop around and get the best price you can. Who's the programme for? You said it was for your birthday? You still collecting Folkestone etc?, got a few more for you if you are.

Thankyou I appreciate the info on prices & quality. It would be for my birthday but I would sell advertising space to make it viable. I will talk to you after Christmas about buying programmes

In your opinion what content should a good programme include?

Presumably it will be A5 or A4 size - unless you're just photocopying A4 sheets, whichever size you choose you'll end up with multiples of 4 so you'll get 40 or 44 pages including the cover which also counts as 1 unit of 4 pages (front/back & inside/outside).

Team line-ups
Fixture list
League tables
Pen pictures (both teams?)
Historical angle (eg previous meetings, they played for both clubs etc)
and front cover must include names of both teams and the date.

And loads of photos (but then I'm biased!) - but I may be able to help you there.

One thing I think is pointless is club history (unless this the first meeting between the two sides), nothing worse than seeing 2 pages wasted on the same text season after season.

My personal favourite for research purposes is a stats page which includes dates of birth and place for players. Saves hours of reseach time.

I would say a club history feature is a central plank of any programme. A well written piece on a previous clash, an old player or simply a delve into the history of a club is essential IMO.

Anyway, I have to ask, why are you making a programme for your birthday?

Also (and it'll take a bit of research) as it's your birthday, you could run a feature on other players who share the same birthday as you.

Theres not many people with the same birthday as me. 26th June. I want this for my birthday as it will be a great momento to be able to give to friends & family & I would like to create the 'Perfect' programme if possible. I'm only 14 & I'm getting the 1966 World-Cup final programme for Christmas from Steve Earl once my mum has paid the money off. Thankyou for taking an insight.

You mis-understood what I meant by history. I am refering to the article, club formed blah blah, played in a village league, before moving to senior football etc.

With regards past players and previous meetings, I totally agree. But if you collect your clubs home programmes or even away programmes, it seems pointless owning 1500 copies of the same article

Paolo Maldini
Mervyn Day
Michel Kuipers
Jason Puncheon

Just a few players that jumped out at me

Ah fair enough, in which case I agree.
