I'm aware of one or two scare stories related to buying tickets from Serbia - does anyone know what to watch out for and who to avoid please?

Don't send paper money ie a cash notes.... I did that and either the postman or the seller whipped out the money, and I was sent a photo of a torn envelope! (fortunately only a tenner)

A bit of a generalisation is it not? I've actually met Vladan from this forum in Belgrade, a top guy and completely trustworthy. Neither is the country dirt poor.

Done a couple of deals in the past and all has been perfect, sent Vladan a few €s in a envelope and it got there just fine! But is a risk sending cash anywhere in a envelope.

I can also confirm that Vladan is an excellent guy. The problem there was someone called Srdan Stajic , who I think is now in jail for fraud. Srdan appeared to have a few associates who were also up to no good.

As i recall i mentioned to this forum some years ago about Vladan when he first appeared on this forum. He was given a bit of abuse based on the fact he was untrustworthy because he was from Beograd.

I said at the time he was and is a genuine collector and is able to unearth decent items and that he is 101% trustworthy and i advised everyone who ever wanted to deal with him to go ahead.

I have purchased some very decent items from him but NEVER sent him cash-not because i do not trust him but i do not trust a foreign postal service to deliver the money to him safely so i always operate by a bank transfer for what it costs and he appreciates it too as it goes directly into his personal account guaranteed.

I have experiences in the past in South America where i was told by a bank in Buenos Aries NOT to send them cash as someone will steal it and the beneficiary will never see it-that was the bank!, years ago i used Western Union to transfer cash but they take the p on commission so your own bank can make the transfer may cost you £20 ish but the transaction is 100%.

Vladan has now overcome the prejudices and is welcomed by us all, but there have been some thieves for sure from that neck of the world and Srdan was one of them-a violent and dangerous person who would verbally abuse you and threaten everything under the sun! a complete and utter imbecile-if he is the nick best place for him.

Others have been on this site offering the regular Red Star ticket and programmes, well they have offered to me but i have never purchased anything not because i do not trust the individual it was just the prices were completely out of sink with reality.

The others who offered items from the Belgrade area were also genuine sellers, but as i say price was always the issue.

One rotten apple does not mean everyone is the same!

If you reading this Vladan-let's all hear from you-seems to have been a while for sure! Wave

Sorry I thought you were talking about a whole country. In reality you mean one or two blokes.
Please feel free to buy, match worn shirts from China, genuine world cup medals from Argentina, original pre 1910 FA Cup final tickets from Slovenia . I hate to be accused of being a UKIP fanatic. I'll keep quiet Laughing Laughing

You said avoid everyone from Serbia implying that they are all crooks.

As ever, when dealing with sellers (or buyers) from overseas, make as many checks as you can and never send cash or unsecure transfers.

That's the same whether it be Serbia, Germany, USA, or England.

On a serious note, would anyone trust buying anything from abroad in so much as , how the hell did the item find it's way over there.
I know Ian Porterfield's 1973 Cup final track suit was bizarrely purchased from a charity shop somewhere in eastern Europe. On eBay there is a well known seller of decent programmes from France and a few years ago from the USA. And Peter has found some rare press photos from Austria and Germany. But generally speaking, when I'm searching , anything listed from abroad I usually avoid at all costs. You can spot the scams a mile off. Well at least I hope people can.
The original question was ""does anyone know what to watch out for and who to avoid please"" . I think Leslie answered that one. As a non collector collector I thank him for his wise words.

I have bought items from both Vladan and Vladimir from this site and have found them honest, straightforward and reliable. I did, however, send tickets to Croatia for an exchange and never received anything in return. They claimed not to have got my items. I sent a final message on Sept. 1st but never got any reply. I do not think the person has ever been on the site again. A pity that you cannot trust everbody as we all depend upon each other.
