Interested in members views as to whether this devalues a programme. |

Like anything in this hobby, it's down to personal preference.
I've got a few 60s Burnley programmes with newspaper reports of the game cellotaped onto the centre pages, and I think it's a nice addition - so often the only thing you have to go off is a result, and a small mention by the manager in the next programme about how well/badly he thought the team played - a match report goes into more detail. I especially like the way newspaper articles were written in the 60s and 70s - so much better than today's lazy journalism.
These days, there's no need for newspaper articles to be stuck into programmes, as it's easy to visit any newspaper's website and find a report of the game in their acrhives. |

I would say, in my view, that match reports, either sellotaped in or worse still stuck in, definately reduces the value of a programme. I agree that match reports are really interesting, but I like them on their own! Sellotape, seems to yellow as it ages, and even though sometimes whatever has been stuck in can come away cleanly, there is often residual stain, which can bleed through to other pages, you often see this on the spines of repaired programmes. The removal of stuck down items and well stuck down selloptape is best left to an expert if its really worth it. |

I got a match report stuck inside a 1949/50 Sunderland v West Brom programme and i hate it. Needless to say i'm after a better copy. Even when they are not stuck into the programme , over time they can discoulour the pages , as have found out in another 1949 programme v Birmingham. I don't throw them away as they are interesting , i just NEVER leave them inside a programme. |

Thanks for the replies.I used to always stick match reports into my programmes in what I call my first collection. This went many years ago(something to do with getting married) and consisted of 50s/60s Notts mainly home programmes.
Since I restarted collecting about 4 years ago I try to avoid programmes with reports stuck in.However I have bought a one or two 50s progs with reports since as Wullie says they are interesting. But in this case I already had a report-free copy or am actively looking for one.

I go along with the majority here.
Do not stick match reports in. They are a great addition to the programme & I have being collecting reports for a long time.
I would say I have most reports of Pompey matches from 79/80 to date in orignal form or photocopied.
If anyone has any Pompey match reports from 1946 to 1959/60 or 1961/62 to 1964/65 please contact me.
