There are a number of sellers asking absolutely astonishing prices On ebay for United tickets. Tottenham v United in the late sixties early seventies over £100 plus. Happy to sell them my spares for half that.
Any reason for this influx of crazy prices?
Cannot believe any will be sold....expensive at 20% of the prices asked in my opinion.
Anyone got any ideas of is it simply sellers seeing one high price and trying to jump on the gravy train?

Hi a lot of the tickets were sold as job lots of Utd tickets at Sportinggold few weeks back. United v Liverpool ones way over priced.Think other sellers just keep looking on ebay and see this inflated price and think they can get that price too. Makes you wonder whether they know anything about football!

The Seller bought a batch of Play Off Final tickets from me recently for £3.99. I am eager to see how much he lists them for on EBay. He has no chance of getting the prices is is currently asking.

Your thoughts on this one please.......

Several days ago a 1974-75 Original Man Utd v Portsmouth Div 2 ticket was put up as a Buy it now £581.64 or Best Offer. The item was up for at least a day, several watchers and then it suddenly ended.

I was watching the item as I have the ticket and was quite surprised at the money being asked........I messaged the seller politely to establish if it had sold for anywhere near that amount but they have not replied. (Their business I know).

Can anyone advise as to whether they think it actually sold (or is worth) that amount?

Personally, although United tickets from their second division season go for good money, I cannot envisage someone paying that sort of amount. If anyone has they have more money than sense.
I collect Tottenham tickets and again their second division season 77/78 bring decent prices but nothing like that. One or two aways may push towards three figures.
The only one I am missing is at Blackburn although a few people have suggested no tickets were issued.
Would be great if anybody could confirm this.

The seller in Poland looks suspicious to me.

His history shows him selling 194 tickets in the past few weeks yet he's only had 1 (one) feedback logged from all of those sales

That is plainly a nonsense - I assume he's "selling" to himself to try and give the appearance that these tickets are worth the prices he's quoting and thus inflating the market

This was always likely to happen once eBay got rid of seller fees

A few years ago the biggest trading card seller in America (PWCC) was chucked off eBay for allegedly running a similar "racket"

I also have been noticing this trend of a handful of ebay sellers attempting to take the total piss.

The Polish seller i would not touch with Pole Laughing no one is doing genuine business and has no feedback which as we all know is how you can determine if a buyer or a seller is reliable/honest ect ect to a great degree but this one stinks to high heaven.

There are a few tickets on with prices of £1500 to £3000, the more expensive item is a rarity but there is nothing printed on it to say it involved MU in 1963-4 at Willem 11[i have a similar ticket likewise, but i took a punt on it 20 years ago for £150-never seen another since until this one shows up at 20 times the value] some deal may get done at a much reduced rate perhaps.

I first thought like Trade/Cigarette cards and Postcards that now appeal to the US Market[with incredible prices for the likes of Meredith/Bloomer in particular] that the crackpot prices are aimed at, but then we are talking about 1990's tickets at £130 FFS! and a lot are not from abroad.

What this is doing is damaging the hobby, turning everyone away from considering getting into that area which is alarming.

One of the issues is how do these spurious sellers who in many cases do not show any other football related items for sale, LAZY auctioneers who just group a ton of tickets as a lot and that is one route perhaps.

I spoke the other day to perhaps the biggest collector of United tickets[he buys nothing else] and he was also concerned about what damage could be caused but feels that eventually it will return to a more sensible set of prices, well the trouble with that argument is it only takes a few utter assholes to cough up and it encourages more of the same, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

This ebay seller is offering this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127211655750?_skw=manchester+united&itmmeta=01JZDS0KETMC4W7G7CV09WDK4Q&hash=item1d9e67d246:g:HSoAAeSwxi9oZkvx&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA0FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dam4oMl048SUze3cQffdeUXhlMbGG2KU34b6WbeY4T%2FCeXMbE3elbaVu2am8%2FCDeXoHelQq5sozsts0iYeVrXcFPsB5ABK6zqE9sMaeVs3SEgRGliKcWuF0tFHyGShu%2FXK4LwmkyHLMqUFqkz%2FNUS%2FQqub1e0bttMD0NyEXNCtyD4R0mK7pLylkO0nFaqB02qUL2VcpA5YLixtYOsqYaXeCYwJcKOdD1GAun4bNDK%2Bud5rgse%2BffXtA4E9TApPyRE%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4K4grn7ZQ On a good day this may have obtained 25-35 quid say 6-12 months ago.. I noted that this seller has already sold an odd one or two at high prices so is as i mentioned earlier encouraged to continue to try their luck, he has 8 items on 6 are United tickets-just look at the prices, he sells Pokemon and other non football stuff, other sellers are asking incredible amounts eye watering but the point is no one is buying so when does the penny drop!. I was only considering the other day to list some of these common items for a £1000 each buy it now as my way of taking the piss but i could see me ending up on numerous forums saying I was a Rip OFF Merchant Laughing

I agree with the comments that this activity is damaging to the hobby and will only discourage newer collectors from staying involved, the perception being that there are even more unscrupulous sellers out there than they thought.
I have collected ticket United tickets for many years and there isn't much that surprises me any more.

I'm a little disappointed. The only Villa v Man United ticket that I need back to 1970 is the 78/79 at Old Trafford.

Having seen these prices, I was thinking that I could retire just on those.

Oh well, work on Monday I suppose

Well I “dipped my toe” in the water and listed a 1974-75 Man Utd v Portsmouth ticket and received an offer almost immediately of……wait for it £330. I declined and have withdrawn the ticket from sale……it will remain in the collection and hopefully prices will continue to rise.
