Sitting here working out my anti - post bet for next season. Both Newport and Burton are once again among the favourites for the drop from their leagues. . Considering their limited resources, both clubs did fantastic last season in managing to avoid relegation. Do any forum members who follow these clubs have any feelings on how they will fare next season? I am thinking of going against the bookies and backing both to stay up. I know littlewiggy is a Newport County fan.If you read this littlewiggy ,what do you think?.. My local outfit. Tranmere are favourites to win their league .To be honest, l really wouldn't care to take the 3/ 1 offered on them .Not looking to win much, just enough for a couple of weeks in a nice hotel in Colwyn Bay( or Rhyl) next year.

Stick a tenner on Carlisle getting relegated and Keith Curle been the first manager to be sacked. We will be in administration before the end of the year from what I've heard.

Off the pitch we're still treading water and are a bit of a mess FP, both financially and in nous - but on the flipside, there's more faith amongst supporters in the current team management than we've had since Justin Edinburgh took us into the league - and we have crucially managed to keep almost all of the players we really wanted to retain, mostly in defence.

However, even with all that upbeat feeling, a simple look at the budget tells you we're probably in for another hard season - our budget this year is £400k down on what the then manager had (& was allowed to squander) this time last summer.

So in short, we're skint and will be relying on luck with loans (again) and injuries to ensure last season's heart-stopping struggles aren't to be repeated mate.

Anything above 22nd will be deemed a success.

Thanks littlewiggy and Kyle. It is good to get some info from the real fans.l do think that half the time the bookies have not got a great knowledge of the lower leagues when they are formulating their odds. I did get Notts County a few years ago at 33/1 when they went on to romp their league . That paid for a few weeks all inclusive in New Brighton! That came from a fan's forum. I have fed your information into the computer. I will let you know what the computer says!

Realistically, you would say Carlisle are one of the strongest teams in the league and should go one better but after the way we fell apart last season it's really hard to say. After January we had the second worst record in the league I believe but before it we had the best, Carlisle are unpredictable. But now that my mind as been cleared of Alcohol, I'd say that us winning the league might be worth a few bob.

Also another tip, stick a tenner on Everton winning the prem, I am Laughing .

Superblue,,backed Everton a while back at 100/1 with a company who were giving each way first three in the Premier. Everton have now been backed down to 80/1 The same firm are paying each way first four in the Championship, so l went for Reading. I asked a pal to pick another two.He played safe and went for Luton ( first four) and Tranmere top three .The £5 each -way pays nearly half a million. The each -way alone pays over £2,500. We can always dream!

Despite his unbelievable heroics in keeping us up against all the odds, Mike Flynn is a complete rookie managerial wise - and this season will be the acid test for him.

Last season, when he came in with two months to go, we were bottom, 11 points adrift, and 13 points adrift of Hartlepool who were the team we eventually caught. So our relegation looked a foregone conclusion, and in that respect he had absolutely nothing to lose. Everybody, including most County fans, thought we were already down. But to his credit, he galvanised everybody and pulled it off.

This time however he has the weight of expectation which is a completely different beast altogether. He is however very ably assisted by Lennie Lawrence as mentor, a good football man who has certainly been around the block. He also has Wayne Hatswell, who's arrival coincided with the defensive organisation which proved the catalyst for our astonishing revival, with a whole plethora of dogged 1-0 wins dragging us out of the mire.

So whether or not we will go down, I really don't know this time. Mainly due to the management still being an unknown quantity.
Whereas I was pretty sure we'd be relegated this time last year with Warren Feeney being retained as gaffer. Stevie Wonder down a coal mine could see that was a foolhardy decision.

If I were a betting man FP (I'm not thankfully, I have far too many vices at it is! lol), I'd be putting money on last season's two promoted Conference clubs to go up again in a double bet.

Lincoln have seemingly invested that huge FAC windfall very wisely and look even stronger, whilst Forest Green have an owner that will continue to pump millions into them. The Conference is a real bottleneck as you'll know being a Tranny fan mate, and I'd expect both to be in the Play-offs at the very least.

I also expect Morecambe to struggle, if the second half of last season was any indication with their financial problems.

PS. No offence to the Bluenoses on here, but I did lol at Everton winning the Prem.

The odds might as well be a million to one!
The bookies are stealing your money.

They'll challenge the top five for sure I'd have thought, they seem to have bought very wisely this summer - losing a prolific striker, but strengthening all over the park.

But champions? Not a chance IMO. Chelsea, City, United, Liverpool (providing they keep Phil) and Arsenal all look stronger too, while Spurs under Poch will be there or thereabouts again.

Mind you, I'd have laughed even louder if you'd said Leicester a couple of summers ago.

Great analysis littlewiggy. You should be writing a column for a football publication.l did chat to a Barrow fan , l think it was in Llandudno last year, and he mentioned that money was getting pumped into his club. lt didn't pay off last season for Barrow, too many draws, but they could be a team to watch this season? Lincoln do look to be going places.l wonder will their excellent management team be poached this season?

Lol, cheers mate, I did do a decade on our match programme, with the much-liked Palace Pete on here as my very own personal mentor.
I learned more from Pete in a couple of years than I did in all of school, when girls & footy were my specialist subjects.

I'd love to see Barrow back in the Football League, and thankfully I think your lads will be back where they belong next year.
I've had a massive soft-spot for Tranny since the Aldo era, when they became my unofficial "3rd team."

(Although we always called him "Ollie" at Newport)

Smile

A friend of mine works for AFC Wimbledon and he reckons they’ll really struggle this season, he fears relegation.

I can’t see beyond Blackburn getting promotion from League 1.

I don’t fancy FGR in L2 they’ve bought in a lot of players but I reckon they’ll have a season of transition.

I'd love to see Barrow in the EFL, then we could have a Cumbrian derby.

They didn't have much idea of the Premiership in 2015/16 when Leicester City won at 5000-1.

Unfortunately not and I won't be backing them this season either. Mind you us winning it may be hope to other teams of about the same size of us. But then again some of the so called bigger teams have had a wake up call, looking at the obscene amounts being paid in transfers for average players.

Burton staying up was perhaps the most admirable achievement of any club last season given the disparity between them and the likes of my lot.

I know we shouldn't read anything into pre-season results but Burton have been shipping a few goals at "lesser" lights so far.

Northampton looked very good against the Rams this evening, by the way.

We've got Northampton away on Sat mate.
The only opposition of any note we'll have played in pre season.

Bit worried we're going into the season seriously undercooked, what with all the cannon fodder we've been playing.

Trouble is, a new pitch is being laid at RP, so any decent home friendlies were out of the question.
