Having just watched one that was, how many UK football grounds have had scenes from movies filmed in (or outside of) them? Even if the ground can be seen in the background would count.

Ones I can think of (and please let me know of more) are:

-Highbury ("The Arsenal Stadium Mystery" 1939)

-Brisbane Road ("Robbery" 1967)

-Belle Vue, Doncaster ("The Man In The Back Seat" 1963)

-White City ("Steptoe + Son Ride Again" 1972)

-Loftus Road ("A Place To Go" 1963)

-Elland Road ("The Damned United" 2008)

I'm not counting ones like "Till Death Us Do Part" which included stock footage of Wembley.

Saltergate, Chesterfield - The Damned United (Derby County matches).

Hallam FC - When Saturday Comes. (Sean Bean becomes a top flight left sided provider for the Blades on a diet of 12 pints of bitter a night and chip butties + gets the girl - the delightful Emily Lloyd who brews her own beer and runs a chip shop......not really)

Anfield - The 51st state. Surely there would have been a football stadium in the football factory although I can't remember. There was a film with Ally McCoist as well, I think they used Rugby Park in that film.

Re Brisbane Road 1967 and "Robbery", here's the full movie.........but fast forward to 43:02 and watch for 5 minutes or so.

I don't think there's a better example of a stadium being used in a movie!

But who are Orient playing?

I thought it might be Mansfield or Swindon.

Oh - and if you do like a gritty 60s British thriller, it really IS a good movie...

Great clip Derby ,thanks for posting that, the good old dayes 40p in the ground hardly a blade of grass on the pitch and not a replica shirt in sight,

What i realy did enjoy about this clip of inside the ground though was the freadom of choice to go and STAND were you wanted (realy miss that nowerdays).

Also was not aware that Basil Fawlty was in this movie ?.

I would bet its Carlisle United as they played Orient 20th Nov 1965.
On the clip of the film 47mins 38 secs it show the golden goal time v Derby County played 6th Nov 1965..

Check this clip out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOJXt5R8ijE

Its only a small clip of a documentary that was on for 40 minutes

I think there's actually two grounds in this movie as - at 42 minutes when Stanley Baker and Frank Finlay are talking by the Thames - you can see Craven Cottage in the background.

Lot of work done by movie buffs on which Orient game it was - the consensus appears to be v Swindon 1/4/67 as it (sort of) ties in with the filming schedule.

Bazza - I see a poster for a "Derby Draw" but not Derby County!

York Road was featured in the 1952 film "The Card"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow_zl3jyOPQ

From 2:10 - 3:25 and 7:12 - 8:15. The second clip is better.

The wonderful grandstand - built in 1922 - was destroyed in an arson attack in December 1986.

The ground was also featured in the opening titles of "Yesterday's Hero", the 1979 film.

Thanks for the clip!
I take it those Burslem-like pottery things smoking away behind the stand were a false background?

Not quite a movie - but that episode of "Ripping Yarns" featuring Barnstoneworth United.........weren't those scenes filmed at Salts FC in Yorkshire?

Was also going to include "This Sporting Life" from 1963 - but I think that mght have been Wakefield Trinity RLFC.

Need to watch it again to be sure but I think "Hell Is A City" from 1960 has a few brief shots of the outside of Maine Road.

I had a quick Google for the ground useed in ID, but to no avail
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID_(film)

I have a feeling it was somewhere north of London (where the film was based), maybe Rotherham or Chesterfield?

My favourite football ground in a movie story though is the appearance of Bray Wanderers' Carlisle Grounds in the Michael Collins. One of the key scenes in Michael Collins is the original Bloody Sunday
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1920)
To recreate Croke Park in 1920 they used a 1990s League of Ireland football ground.

1971 film starring Richard Harris as a footballer - Bloomfield - also known as "The Hero" - I've seen it but I've no idea which football grounds were featured.
