hidden costs of Auctions

bought a small lot of programmes at Taylors Auctions in Montrose recently, paid £25, commission and other charges £11, then they wanted £38 postage, my £25 was now £74 unbelievable...

If I get a stupid quote like that I ask for the weight and sort out my own postage. It’s easily done. I’ve refused on occasions to pay stupid postage and even threatened to go to trading standards about costs. Amazing how the price comes down or they agree for you to sort your own postage.

Agree this is ridiculous, but the auction house is using these specialist postal people as potentially handling expensive paintings, ceramics etc.
I've previously used Hermes to go and collect the items at a much more sensible cost
