Not just our hobby.
Printing, letters, envelopes, postcards, Christmas & Birthday cards, etc etc.
They are cutting off their nose to spite their face. Take all the above out of the postal system, and what's left? |

Pete
Someone has worked out though what they can get away with , I note the services that can’t be duplicated for a lower price, like letters and large letters are being increased, but services that can be duplicated at a better price like parcels are remaining unchanged. _________________ Ipswich Town programmes required, please message me if you are able to help

My missus works at the Post Office and Royal Mail have made no secret of the fact that they want the parcel trade rather than the run of the mill letters etc.
Following all the strikes they had at the tail end of last year, I no longer send any parcels with them as it's cheaper to use Parcels 2 Go and they are tracked as part of the price rather than an additional cost with RM, so all they get from me is the stuff that fits into an envelope.
I reckon that changing to P2G has saved me over a grand in postage fees this year so far.
I can't be the only one that has dropped RM for parcels either because my Postmaster reckons that he's about 30% down year on year on the parcel trade.
Hiking prices up will be their way of pulling back some of those losses and sadly those that only use the Post Office will end up paying it. |

The Royal Mail should never have been privatised in the first place (I'm looking at you Vince Cable) and just like every other public service in this country it's going to the dogs at a rapid pace whilst shareholders line their pockets. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

An expert on Royal Mail, please can you advise the dividends that share holders have received since privatisation ?
Why do you have to stain a football programme forum with political views - what do they have to do with collecting programmes ? _________________ Ipswich Town programmes required, please message me if you are able to help

Someone started a thread about the increasing cost of sending items of mail, a direct consequence of privatisation.
That has everything to do with politics and how it affects the hobby. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

Well if you had bought shares in Royal Mail five years ago you'd be over 50% down now, times change, no monopoly for them these days, other companies cherry picking the parcel routes, plus who's going to deliver a letter from Lands End to John o Groates for £1.10p and make money doing it? |
A strong period of trading during the pandemic ultimately led to the return of £400 million of surplus cash to shareholders, resulting in January 2022’s payment of a special dividend of 20p a share.
A dividend has been paid every year upto 2022 _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

Unfortunately they are assett stripping the company and renegading on their USO obligation which is written into UK law.
Ofcom are toothless as a regulator, so RM plough on and do whatever they want.
They lied all throughout the Parliamentary Select Committee led by the tremendous Chair Darren Jones MP.
No one is seemingly able to hold them to account.
Presumably they will all have to go to prison at some point in the future for perjury.
The latest pay deal was an absolute joke, no where near inflation price rises.
All they care about is giving millions and millions to the shareholders.
This latest price increase is absolutely disgusting. |

Just tried calculating the Ebay fees with the new Royal Mail fees.....
Here's my results (using a run of the mill programme)....
Say I was to list a Coventry v Ipswich programme from 1979 (75g including sleeve) on Ebay and wanted £1.00 for it.
My Fees/Costs would be:
Programme (what I want for it) £1.00.
Sleeve 5p.
Envelope (either board backed or standard with card, no real cost difference between them) 25p.
Ebay FSF 57p.
Ebay (Ebays extra rip-off charge per sold item) 30p.
(both include VAT).
Postage On-Line price (L/L upto 250g) £2.30.
(Ebay fees calculated on the total cost below).
My conclusion is:
So to get a return of £1.00 for the programme, the buyer would have to pay,
£1.00 for the programme and £3.47 postage (including the fees) making a grand total of..........
£4.47!! (for a programme from 1979!).
Yep... The hobby is unfortunately dying (on-line, no so at fairs) for the lower priced bits n bobs ....... and give it another year or two and a couple more price rises 50s & 60s programmes will be hit to. |
