Trawling through a batch of Scottish photos to add on my next update, by which time I'll have a new all-singing & dancing website - that's the theory anyway.

This one is doing my head in. Aberdeen at home, dated June 1968 (as they all are in this batch) - an odd date for a game of football, even in Scotland. I've looked at every club on HFK in the 60's and can't locate this badge anywhere. Can someone please put me out of my misery? And can anyone recognise the player? That would be a bonus.

Ally Shewan is the Dons' player. He played over 200 games for the Dons right through the 60's.

Thank you in anticipation.

It is Partick Thistle and their magnificent dark blue 1960s away kit.

It must have been felt their red and yellow banded kit would clash with the Dons' red kit.

Also, I very much doubt if that game is in June 68, even the Scottish League Cup group stages had not started by then. Unless someone knows of a summer testimonial?

Thanks for that Overlap, I thought I could see a thistle in there but couldn't match it with anything I found on the internet including Historical Kits.

Cheers!

Try the Aberdeen Heritage Trust website - you may be able to track the game down from there.

From what I remember of footy in the 60s, the 3 wheeler cars used to be round the park at Ibrox and not Pittodrie.

I can recall seeing 1 or 2 at the corner of the Merkland Road end and the South terracing.
Early/mid 70s.

My maternal grandfather owned one up here - though he passed away in 1960.

If you look halfway down this page you can also see the Invacars pitchside at Celtic Park in the 1960s to 1980s.

I seem to remember them being pitchside at Coventry City in england too.
