Hi there

I want to display my collection on book shelves with the spines facing out. There are 3000 plus. They are not directly in the sun and are close enough together to let them all stand up straight and securely.

There are two questions I have which I hope someone can help with.

Some programmes are rather fragile and I would like to put them in a clear plastic wallet which is acid free and also does not have punch holes for a binder. the size ideally should be about 205 by 135mm. I'm having trouble sourcing these - does anyone have any suggestions or leads?

I would also like to be able to display the odd programme - and change it regularly- does anyone have any good looking suggestions for this?

I look forward to your help and thoughts.

Many thanks

Martin

Still looking for about 30 Hull City programmes home and away from the past 60 years

Hi Martin

I wouldn't stand programmes up like this unless they are very well supported. Bookcases tend to be wide, and with a lot of programmes stood up this will lead to many of them sagging and losing shape, leading to damage.

If you do want to do this, I'd suggest inserting each programme into comic bags with boards. There is a link at the end of the message to show examples.

Alternatively (admittedly much more expensive), consider binders. Does your club sell these? Shelves with binders do look good, certainly much better than rows of loose programmes.

I would rather get older issues in binders before storing them loose on the shelf.

In terms of displaying programmes, you could get a nice certificate frame to use for this.

Cheers
Peter

Thanks very much Peter for your reply. I did think someone might think standing them up was wrong, however, as I have split home and away and kept in chronological order, I thought they looked quite good and more interesting than binders.

As for displaying - are there any clear acrylic stands anyone has used?

I believe this season Norwich are creating a design across all the 'spines' of their home programmes - as they are 'perfect bound'
I guess the intention os for people to display a complete set of home progs on a shelf just like the post above
In reality, prob less than a handful of people will do this

Liverpool had an image of Anfield on their spines in 00-1 season (I think).

I wouldn't be a fan of storing programmes vertically unless their well supported in binders
