Thought I would start this again as a new thread
I have done more research on this photo and my best lead is now 18/2/24 when Oxford uni played spurs
The key question is where was this Game played?
The prince of wales met the teams arm in a sling
Game played for tottenham hospital
Mixed socks explained possibly by Oxford uni house colones?
Cheers for any help

The only thing I can say is , if it was at Oxford there would be a running track round the pitch. I can't see the photo that well on my mobile to judge but my guess is White Hart Lane. If it is then there must be programmes knocking around.

I've just looked through my copy of Colin Weirs' "History of Oxford University AFC" and the game is mentioned in the narrative and listed in the results section. However, it doesn't give the venue (OUAFC home games were listed as being played at Iffley Road), although the annual fixture against Tottenham in 1925/26 was listed as being played at White Hart Lane.

The only other comment I can make is that photos from that era in the book show OUAFC in halved not striped shirts. However in the 1939/40 Varsity match team group OUAFC are in stripes with their players in different socks as per the above photo. Could it be from a Varsity match? In the 1920's they were played at the Crystal Palace, Stamford Bridge and the Queens Club.

Someone on the nonleaguematters.co.uk site (history section) might be able to help with more information

Thank you for this,I have just found this on a spurs website

1924 Prince of Wales attended a match at White Hart Lane against Oxford University in aid of the Tottenham Hospital (named after him). He had his arm in a sling and got a great ovation from the crowd.

mystery finally solved!
A spurs historian has confirmed that this photo is from the spurs v oxford uni fixture played 18th February 1924. Apparently the guy on the far left is the spurs chairman!
I can now rest!
