Hi All,

I've found several match tickets which state the host team and the date but not the opponent - can anyone help me identify them?

They are (host team then date on ticket listed):

Preston 19 Dec 1960
Plymouth 4 Mar 1980
Walsall 14 Apr 1964
Walsall 20 Oct 1965
Walsall 9 Aug 1966
Walsall 7 Feb 1976
CF Calella v Leeds United? (date sought)

Many thanks in advance.

Posh, thanks for the suggestion. I should have said I'd already used another site to check the dates but anyway I've now looked at statto.com too and it couldn't help either. I guess these matches were friendlies, testimonials, reserves, minor cups... etc.

That's excellent; thanks to all. So, I'm only now looking for opponents in the games at Preston on 19 Dec 1960 and Walsall on 14 Apr 1964. As ever, any help is much appreciated.

Statto will only give you the match score and not the date that the actual match was played ......... It will aslo give you the Final League Table for EVERY season ..........

Statto.com does give the dates on which matches were played, select a season for the relevant division and click on "Results" in the left hand menu - it brings up a calendar for that season and you can select any highlighted date to see the matches played that day.

STATTO is a very good source of information but only gives statistical details of competitive games per season/per club.

It does not give details for Friendlies/Testimonials etc.

I found the information for the Walsall games by using programmes from the season concerned.

STATTO will give details of the home matches closest to the dates in question. So for Preston, the closest home games to 19 Dec 1960 are:

10 Dec 1960 Spurs
26 Dec 1960 Forest

For Walsall,

30 Mar 1964 C Palace
11 Apr 1964 Hull City

If anyone has any of the programmes listed they may give information of forthcoming games/results etc.

I'm finding Statto hard to navigate and it's essential to my collection for finding out if I have postponed matches and of course finding out which programmes I still need eg cup games. I have it bookmarked on the 78/79 season for Rangers games that season and it's just a simple matter of changing it to the season I need. I only discovered the site on here a few weeks ago. It has made things a lot easier for me.

If anyone needs any detailed information on first team matches played / player career records back to 1888 I will try and help via my subscription to the ENFA database.

I did mention this website a while back but I was pilloried by certain members as it is requires subscription and the interface did not look great. However it is the quality of the information that counts so if anyone requires help I will try and assist - for free - as best I can.

An example of the match detail available is as follows (layout has been "skewed" a bit on the cut and paste":

Thursday 12-Jan-1950

FA Cup Round 3 (replay)

Boothferry Park, Kingston-upon-Hull

Hull City 5 Southport 0

Greenhalgh

Harrison (Ken)

Revie

Moore

Burbanks

Att: 28,018

1 Billy Bly

2 Wilf Hassall

3 Jack Taylor

4 Jimmy Greenhalgh

5 Gerry Bowler

6 Allan Mellor

7 Ken Harrison

8 Don Revie

9 Norman Moore

10 Raich Carter

11 Eddie Burbanks

1 Wilf Birkett

2 Colin Beardshaw

3 Harry Harrison

4 Trevor Hitchen

5 Bill Bellas

6 Bob Hacking

7 Jimmy Meadows

8 Alan Ball

9 Cec Wyles

10 Bernard Ross

11 Kenny Powell

I suppose the site is most useful to Soccer historians or anoraks. Apart from research on matches played etc I find it interesting to pick a player and view his match by match playing career so that probably puts me in the latter category!
