I am not an expert on ebay.
I have recently lost out to a bidder named as "private listing - bidders identitites protected".
What does that mean and what is the benefit of protecting your identity?

The mostly likely reason is the seller wanted to make sure they got the price they wanted. They can do the legally by using a reserve but they can make the sale private and bid on their own item if it's not high enough. By doing this the circumvent the cost of a reserve fee and they can try and manipulate the auction.

The is a faint chance it was private for another reason.

Thanks. I felt that I had bid a fair price and all the other bidders (both before and after) were listed as "private listing". I felt uncomfortable about increasing my bid, so I didn't!

You did the right thing, always set a price you'll go to and stick to it. It's not always best to bid the full amount you'll go to and thats one of the way sellers who use private win out.

My advice is if you are new to it bid one penny over what you want to pay and leave it at that. But always check the sellers details and what they have sold / to who in the past.

I think that I did the right thing. Sadly, I don't have the programme that I wanted.

Didnt want to start a new thread, but can anyone tell me how long your watched items stay there afer they have ended, before they are automatically deleted?

I had some things saved for research reasons and some have now gone, any help appreciated, cheers.
