I find myself in the strange position of agreeing with you! Maybe not in such eloquent terms, but I think it's symptomatic the celebrity obsessed world we live in today, of which the BEEB plays a huge part.

If government collected the taxes from the companies who make a living out of avoiding them, and the uber rich individuals who do similar, we could cure the vast majority of the ills, not just in this country but abroad as well.

Whenever I see any programme on the box with the word celebrity in it I deliberately don't watch it. I refuse to have my intelligence compromised.

If Bazza was banned there wouldn't be all the great banter that this thread is experiencing.
I know he can be a cantankerous tw@t at times and is often infuriating
with his comments but they do generate a plethora of reactions that cause great ammusement and I am sure they would be sorely missed.
Don't ban him just keep giving him"stick"

To be fair, that was it's original title.

I always thought 'banter' was defined to be light hearted, witty and just a little playful.

if that's the case then great banter and Bazza don't belong in the same sentence.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the term 'banter'.

Its just a convenient excuse, a defence mechanism, in the aftermath of insulting somebody.

Drvonshineck was just alluding to perhaps that some recent correspondance had gone too far. he may have a point. I'll let others be the judge of that.

We've had our run ins, Bazza and me, he will say its Shallowblade, he supports a tin-pot 3rd Division team that has never won owt, whose programmes are worth nowt because everyone from Yorkshire is a tight b*****d and they want everything for free.

That's ok, I'm just glad I'm not Scottish

As Wullie says 'lets just get on'.

Regards Sharrowblade, fully paid up member of the boring bugger and Mommy's boys, Sad git and Loser brigade.

Sharrow hits the nail squarely on the head.

Perhaps members should avoid posting so-called "banter" on here that they wouldn't be comfortable with saying to a stranger in a pub.

In terms of Industrial Relations you're absolutely right Sharrow. So many people used to use the term "it was only banter" when verbally abusing other employees as mitigation for their bully boy tactics.

HR, or Personnel as they used to be called, don't accept it as mitigation nowadays and I had to sit in on numerous disciplinary hearings where people tried to use the banter excuse and got their just desserts.

There's a very fine line between what's acceptable and what's not. Most comedy is at the expense of someone's misfortune. Where it becomes no go for me is when it crosses what's normally defined as okay if it doesn't cross into areas that have been legislated for like racism, disability, gays, LGBT, etc.

This Forum will have a set of guidelines based on the above principles that folk would need to adhere to otherwise the owners of the site could end up in bother themselves if the legislative boundaries are crossed.

At the end of the day I used to laugh at Gene Hunt in Life on Mars because he was a brilliant parody, but it's unlikely I'd share in such jokes around a pub table over a pint.

There are some great points made in what is now a discussion about what is generally acceptable in our postings. Agreed with John that 'banter' is a loose word which can be interpreted in a broad spectrum. Hopefully we can see some wit and wisdom hopefully a dash of humour and great repartee. Nastiness and acerbity are not called for!!

I've met drvonshineck and he's not a boring bugger, mummy's boy,or a washer woman,he's good company,I can't think why he posted this but when someone craps on something that is important to you,it can be hard to take. It's easy for me to deal with stuff like this because i'm 57 but drvon... is a young man and more likely to react, which he did,in a daft way but it turned out to be a very entertaining thread.

Bloody Hell lads I didn't expect the "Spanish Enquisition", Shocked
I didn't describe Bazza's comments as banter, just the comments that they generate. Repartee is a good word so please substitute that for banter in my previous post.
This site is very informative, amusing, helpful and very entertaining (in all it's forms) let's hope it stays that way. Love Love Love
