best player you ever saw who didnt play for your club

Best player I ever saw who didnt play for the club I support ,was Tom Finney .Absolutely great footballer ,and the epitome of a sportsman .other players I admired were Alec Young of Everton,Jimmy Greaves of Spurs,and Chelsea.
In the modern era ie 90s and 2000s Henry ,Owen (and thats before signing for Man U ,and pre-Newcastle Days)Zola ,Kaka,were outstanding players in my opinion.
Of course there were some good players about in the 70s ,and 80s,
maybe Trevor Francis comes to mind,and Keegan.
However thats only my opinion ,and what do I know.

id have loved to have seen glen hoddle at everton in mid 80s that bloke was class around then.ray wilkins also early 80s when with utd.i always rated devonshire also for west ham.forest had decent players nigel clough steve hodge peter shilton john robertson going back to early 70s most of the leeds side hector ohare hinton nish all at derby.cormack for them.colin bell at city.macdonald with newcastle.radford armstrong george and graham all for arsenal.

From watching Grimsby, the two best players I would have loved to have had at Blundell Park, were both Scottish and playingfor Barnsley in the early 80's, Owen Archdeacon and Ronnie Glavin, who was a prince among paupers in the old 2nd division.
Others include Ray Crawford, York City's keeper; Alex Sabella at Sheff.Utd; Alan Biley, Pompey.

Of course everybody knows that Harry Haslam signed Alex Sabella having turned down some ne'er do well by the name of Diego Maradona...

Ah but we couldn`t afford Diego`s added pharmaceutical costs. And anyway he were a reyt ugly bugger compared to young Alex.

Sabella was a fine silky skilled falir player, but alas very rarely was there much end product, then again playing with Duggie brown, John Flood & len De Goey back then, he had his work cut out.


Bobby Charlton was the classiest opponent i ever saw. We drew 1-1 with Man U at the Lane 1972, Bobby was superb, even under pressure, i well remember he glided around 3 men in his own box & passed his way out of trouble, the memory sticks with me. Marvellous stuff.

It's a toss up between Peter Taylor when he was playing for Palace (and if I remember correctly an England international in Division 3 (old money)), Leighton James for Burnley in the F.A. cup and Muzzy Izzet for Leicester who scored the best goal I've ever seen bar none

I use to marvel at Frank Worthington as a nipper, pure class. Roy Keane was another player I admired. He reminded me a bit of myself on the pitch........hence the name Rocky
