Hi Guys
As a collector over the years of Manchester United programmes, although i stand in awe at Mr Millman and treble99 collections I have now got to the time when er indoors is chewing my ear about the space i take up
My main collection consists of the European games and also the many Friendly and testimonials that the team has played over the years although i have a fair few of completed seasons--this is where the problem lies therein.
The completed seasons are the ones that take up a lot of the space--various full boxes dotted around the house, under the bed etc and so are very rarely aired out by me although i will quite regularly inspect my European and Friendly games frequently.
My question really is should i get rid of the completed seasons (all bar the treble season of course). I am a frequent ebay user and i know that prices are depressed at the current time but it would free up a bit of space plus also the fact that they are not gonna really increase in value (especially the current modern programmes)
Advice please--thanks chaps
Norm

I'd keep any collections where they won anything, they are the ones that will likely to be worth anything in the future. Although as it's Manchester United, sadly too many exist for any REAL value.

FA Cup winning seasons, just keep the FAC games, same for League Cup
Championship seasons (and there has been a lot of them recently) might be a little more painful in terms of space.

Get rid of your wife-problem solved, i did it twice but they just keep coming back Laughing
If given the choice you would really not part with them-then simply don't!
Let's all face it from 1960 onwards bar the postponed programmes none of this lot is going to be worth a great deal so you can imagine all other clubs would be totally suited to go in the nearest bin-BUT it is not about the monetry aspect is it!, it is about your club and your passion and the only suggestion I can make on top of what i have already said is going forward maybe you want to be a little more selective and concentrate on European and FA Cup matches only??, do not know, but what i do know is that you want to continue but space is an issue, so I think i will stay with my first thought-get rid! hahaha.
Only you can decide-it is your collection, your pastime, gives you lots of pleasure, your own little world........... and you can pass it on when the time is right but to flog off the modern stuff you cannot give it away now or even in the past. In the 1960;s when United were averaging 55,000 a match those prorammes cost four or six old pence and today maybe on a good day between £1-2 but the recent ones cost £3 so they will never ever be worth much in the future but a good collection full of complwete seasons in great condition form a history of whichever club you follow and if you feel you can live without it all fair enough but your not getting rid for the right reasons so after going around the houses for the 3rd time-get rid of her! Good Luck
If your still intent then send me a PM with what you are looking to possibly move on-ok.

Leslie

I know a few collectors who have disposed of their collection for the very reasons you mention or because they need the cash. Then in later life they try to get it all back and realise that it costs a lot more! I am not saying it is right but worth consideration.

I think if you let them go you'll regret it. Look to find a way to store them without cluttering the place up. Look at the "how I store my collection" thread.

If you're determined to sell I think selling that amount on ebay would be a massive headache so selling as a job lot to a dealer on here would maybe be the best way to go. Give a description and consider the offers made.

This is a good idea. I only keep collections of seasons we have won something....... as you can imagine, my collection is very small. Sad

Ive teetered on the edge of selling up a few times recently, or at least cutting the collection down to pre 1958, The room they take up is a minor problem, and time needed to dedicate to collecting and organising which I just dont have, with a young family, and work commitments

It was only on Friday I was telling my uncle about thinking of selling up... Obviously its the wrong time to sell up if you wanted to and the advice he gave was to sit on them as my priorities may change again in the future!
