1942-43 Football League XI v Western Command

This game was played at Cardiff.

It is not in the book "Soccer at War"

Because it was ar Cardiff it might just be a Football League West Division team or it might be a proper Football League XI.

Has anyone ever seen a programme for this game, or team line-ups?????

For the November game above, the Western Command won 2-0. (Same day, Northern Command team beat a Polish Army side 6-1)

I can't find any records of the teams.

It must be the 28 November 1942.

What were 2nd May 1942 or 30th April 1942? Were they games at Cardiff?

On 2nd May 1942 Lovells Athletic v Aberaman (Football League West Cup Final) took place at Ninian Park.

They were other games between the two sides according to the Newspapers. Sorry I don't have any further details on venues.

That's great. At least it was a 'full' representative side, not just a FL West XI.

I'll have to get a local at the local paper for more information. The details you've included are a great help.

On a similar theme....

Cardiff City .. 6
Army XI .. .. 9

You don't get many 6-9 scorelines....

War time football (and rugby which is my interest) had many interesting games and scorelines.

I collect some of the Northern Command rugby programmes from the War and love to see players playing for clubs that you wouldn't normally associate them.

Welsh Services vMet Police @ Cardiff 23rd May 1942

Wales v RAF @ Swansea 26th Sept 1942
Wales v RAF @ Wrexham 2nd Sept 1944

Interesting Wartime programmes i once owned were
Red Devils v FA X1 24th March 1945 in Bruges score 1-8
Belgium v FA X1 25th March 1945 score 2-3
Red Devils v FA X1 21st April 1945 in Liege. score 1-1
Red Devils v FA X1 22nd April 1945 in Brussels score 0-0

No Germans in Belgium then ?
