I'm trying to find out some info on the history of extra time and why we stopped playing replays when it came to finals?

If someone could point me in the direction of a good website or pass on their own knowledge i'd greatly appreciate it!

Think the main reason is the police now want 10 days notice of a fixture, so a replay 4 days later is now a no go.

Privaledged to queue for an FA Cup Final Replay ticket on the Sunday morning, with the replay played the Thursday immediately following the Saturday.

Suspect also that the ridiculous number of European club fixtures has played a part - for about the last 15 or so years, the Champions League (and now also the 'Europa League') have grown and grown to the situation that its something like 17 or so games from the start to the final for a successful club. With that number of european fixtures, some domestic replays at the end of the season (and all in the League Cup) had to give.

I think the League Cup is actually pretty good without replays - you know that even if it takes penalties, you will see a result on the night, which makes an unattractive competition a litle bit more exciting.

It is however annoying if you 'need' an away ground (in your 'quest for the 92') but get drawn against that club at home, and know there is no chance of a replay!
