I guess mine would have to be Jurgen Klinsmann, David Ginola and Ossie Ardlies. And maybe some of the current Squad if they stay (cough cough Luka!!!) Outside of spurs I always liked Alessandro Del Piero and Raul Gonzalez.

Any truth in the roumer that City are to name one of the ends of there ground after the great midfield player .....calling it The Bell End ?.

I am old enough at at age 70 in May of this year to have had the good fortune to see the Busby Babes at Old Trafford ,and many other grounds too.Amongst the myriad of brilliant players whose lives were cruelly cut short ,Duncan Edwards was the most outstanding. An absolute colossus of a player!!!The present United player Phil Jones is being compared to Big Dunc! Good as the potential of Phil Jones has,and he is a great talent,I am afraid unfortunately there was only one Duncan Edwards. When I think that he died at the tender age of 21,I feel extremely sad always.I even go to say England would have won the World Cup in 1958 if Big Dunc ,and the other United players who died@ Munich, and who represented England, would have been in Sweden. In my book the greatest player who ever wore the Red and White of United!

Jimmy Moreton of Tranmere Rovers! Epic player who was with the club for around 30 years as a player, coach and manager! Joined the club in 1910. Retired as a player in 1926. Worked as a coach for many years until he became manager in 1939. Believed in developing youth players in the 1940s but tragically died in 1942 at the age of 50.[/img]

Great action shot of The Doog here outjumping Spurs Mike England (circa 71).
Both players were team mates at Blackburn late 50s, very versatile player was England in his youth filled a number of positions when starting his career at BB started has a full-back also featured has a wing-half and inside-forward who went on to be one of the best center-halfs of his generation and gave great service to Spurs & Wales.

i had a few been an everton fan growing up in the 80s i had the pleasure of seeing southall emerge to the best in the world and a very young classy trevor steven taking full backs aparts as did pat nevin also on that score.graeme sharp around 84-87 was unstoppable at times and peter reid was just pure scary but wonderfully scary for us.my ultimate hero though was kevin ratcliffe between 84 and 86.he to me was everton and i loved him, still do even though he comes out now and attacks everton that in my mind though is only speaking the truth and they hate him for it now.funny that aint it.also had players like kevin richardson derek mountfield pat van den hauwe gary stevens andy gray who i admired as well.oposistion players spurs had hoddle ardilies falco roberts perryman and houghton who i liked.forest had robertson anderson shilton hodge davenport.utd had gidman mcgrath robson muhren (one of the classiest players ive ever seen in my life) wilkins whiteside.arsenal had jennings nicholas talbot.ipswich had a side of talented wonderfull players too many to mention.villa had spink evans mortimer shaw bremmer gibson walters.loads of others sides i could talk to you about in 80s southampton sheff wed luton west ham all had class players who i liked seeing perform newcastle and norwich are also in amongst that.ultimately though kevin ratcliffe was my idol in 80s. Ronaldo (the Brazilian one) when he was at his very best at Barcelona was at times unplayable in my opinion. I also liked watching fellow Brazilian Rivaldo and George Weah at AC Milan.

As far as United goes, Cantona is my favourite player. Honorable mention though to Peter Schmeichel who I don't think they have replaced even to this day. Van der Sar was a good keeper and De Gea has potential but he's far from the finished article at this stage - he has plenty of time on his side though.

I think the real heros for most fans are not necessarily the better players, but the ones who have hung around in good times and bad. In todays game, this will happen less and less. How many are awarded a testimonial nowadays? That is why when people talk so fondly of old players. I really can't see many modern players held in such affection as the ones in the past. A soon as a team are relegated then they are off, back on the gravy train of the Premiership. They have one decent season , and they are off to warm Man. City's bench for £200.000 a week because they think they are worth it.
