Along with handbooks, a another neglected part of collecting football memorabilia is old season tickets. Old tickets for individual games can sell for £100s but season tickets books from the same season can go for peanuts. Does anyone collect them?

I only keep mine. Norwich have had a plastic card since 1985/86 with your name on it.

I have a customer who is very keen to buy old season ticket books but must be pre 1960 really. I did post on here a few weeks ago but found nothing much of that era he wanted.

Certainly do, got every season back to 1947-8 struggling for 1946-7-as all those games between 1946-7,1947-8, 1948-9 were played at Manchester City's Maine Road due to OT being bombed.

I also have a selection of 1930's for Ladies as well as Gentlemen and some in the 1920's and some players season tickets as well from the 1920's. As Manchester United the oldest season ticket is around 1904-5 that i know has turned up.

Players passes also is another niche area and i have been fortunate to find some from the 1950-60-70's, i would not rate anything much after say the 1980's and am not even sure if they are issued these days but for me i would not be too concerned to obtin a modern day players item, as my interest is the 1940-1960's period.

Another aspect that is as interesting and perhaps more so are players itineraries for pre-season trips abroad, cup finals, tournaments and without wishing to sound crass in anyway but MUFC has had a fair amount of sucess in getting to finals since 1948 and as the years rolled on their popularity has increased both at home and abroad so pre-season wise they are about the biggest attraction and this reflects itself in so many tours from the 1940's to this day. Granted nowadays it is about money but it was probably no different in the 1940's when they were asked to Tour Ireland after winning the Cup, sowing seeds for future support no doubt too and especially if the captain is a famous Irishman as well!. My oldest itinerary is from the 1909 Cup Final which belonged to the then club secretary Mr. J.Markham.0001_1.jpg[/img]

The name of MR. A Powell was United's Youth trainer since the early 1940's he is the one who always looked like Rab C Nesbit with the odd bit of hair flying over his bald scalp!.

sadly with arsenal at the moment everyone collects everything as there are a lot of collectors who have near completed the programme collection because arsenal programmes are easy to get even from 40s and 50s. So quite a few arsenal collectors have moved into tickets including season tickets thus pushing prices up so I now concentrate on certain seasons only unless somehing comes up at a reasonable price. Like leslie i am also a sucker for other ephemera like menus, itineraries etc but only when linked to finals or certain seasons (championship winning ones).

Like Paulo, I have always kept my own, but never actively collected. However, like Goonerboy, I'm a sucker for anything connected to my club. I saw some Forest season tickets come up on ebay this week, in Nottingham, and going for next to nothing. They went from mid 70's to mid 90's, so I bought the lot. That means that I now have a season ticket for nearly every season from the early 70's, right through to today.I just loved the look of the old season tickets, and couldn't resist them!

I have always kept all my tickets, and I have recently purchased about half a dozen old season ticket books for not a lot of money.

I've always kept my own, for the last ten years it's been a credit card style thing, with the additional booklet of programme vouchers.

I'd probably buy up old ones for my club if they ever came up, did try for a very old one at a recent auction, but was outbid.

For Palace, from 1905-1914 there was the added complication that the football ground(s) was part of the Crystal Palace grounds (a huge park with a glass exhibition hall - a victorian equivalent of the Millennium Dome) and so there were annual season tickets issued for the Palace and grounds, not just the football matches.

I have got a 1913 match ticket though Smile

I've also got one Players Pass (1937) and a 1922 fixture list.

In those days everything seemed to be hard-backed bound, with gold embossed printing on the front, a bit like Leslie's super stuff above.

Nowadays, the modern stuff isn't half as 'special'.
