Please see the new catalogue which is now on line.

https://www.sportingoldauctions.co.uk/sale_cat.aspx

Lot 150 might be of interest to those folk with deep pockets.

Hello Roddy, an interesting and historic lot, thanks for posting.

However I have a question.

Why is Johnstone's 1967 final shirt made by Umbro, but, according to the auction description the curator of the San Siro museum has "2 Celtic shirts from the 1967 Final, both of which have the blue Bukta label." ??

Thanks for pointing this out. It was incorrectly entered on the website as Bukta and is definitely Umbro. It has now been corrected.

LOT 430 is incorrectly described!!

George Best never played in this match!! lol

The AFC Bournemouth line up was:
1 Leigh IR, 2 Heffernan TP, 3 Sulley CS, 4 Spackman NJ, 5 Brignull PA, 6 Impey JE, 7 Dawtry KA, 8 Shaw CJ, 9 Morgan TJ, 10 Lee TC, 11 Nightingale MBD, SUB; 12 Williams KD ( 8 ) 62 mins

George Best only appeared at Griffin Park once. This was for SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES. 12/10/1981.

Here's a picture of him. San Jose borrowed Brentford's away kit!

I don't believe he appeared at GP any other time?

Someone trying to mug people off here. Get it removed!!

I am told it has been altered to say that he was on the original lineup as number 7 for Bournemouth but was a late withdrawal.

He may be in the programme line up but he never turned up at GP, that’s for certain. We expected a Bowles v Best face off.....never happened.

Anyway, it’s poor showing to say it was Best’s last ever game. Someone’s trying it on, in my opinion.

As I said earlier it is being changed. I do not believe that Sportingold is "trying something on" for £20 or for that matter on any other amount. Yes you are right it should have been worded differently and they are very grateful for you pointing out the error but there are over 1600 lots in the catalogue and there are bound to be errors from time to time some coming from vendors who may be economical with the truth or perhaps have made a genuine error but there is no advantage for the auction house to be disingenuous because reputation is everything. I think Sportingold's batting average over a long period of time is pretty good.

You need to change the wording to lot 1091 as well, you advertise the 3 items as QPR, not Glasgow Rangers.

Re Lot 150.
When I read the description first time it seems to say that the same shirt had being worn twice, in the final and against Real Madrid. If the shirt was given to the photographer immediately after the final how was it worn a second time two weeks later when Celtic played Real Madrid??? Or did Celtic only use this type of shirt twice, one for the final and then another shirt was issued for the Real Madrid game?

This same style of shirt with a blue triangular Umbro badge not the actual shirt was also worn at the Di Stefano Testimonial in Madrid two weeks later.
It was only ever produced for Celtic for these two games.

Better than "pretty good" in my humble opinion.

Outstanding items offered and excellent service provided.

Many thanks for that Martino.

Lot 1091 has been corrected and lots 150 and 430 have been amended.
